Got 3 GB of Ram PC says only 2.93 GB of ram?

    I just put 3 Gigs of ram in my computer but when i go into computer information it only shows 2.93 GB. I know it isnt that big of a deal, but im just curious to why it isnt recognizing it as 3 gb.

    If you have a video chip, it is probably stealing the RAM you do not see.
    My computer has 1GB (1024MB) RAM and in properties, it shows 896MB. The missing 128MB is used for video.

    What you mean a video chip? Like an intergrated gfx card? And if so i was about to order a pci express gfx card. Would that fix the problem? Not that it really matters that much lol.

    Yes, if you install an external graphics card, turn the integrated graphics card off in bios and you should have the full 3 Gb of memory.

    Hi

    What Windows version do you have?

    Its very likely that its on-board GFX that's taking your ram but also some other hardware's can also, if you have Windows 7 then you can easily see where the ram is going in this screen (just type resmon into the start search box and hit enter then click Mem)

    If you see a larger Hardware reserved total than mine then its likely a device is using your extra ram, and to be honest I wouldn't worry too much as that's not a bad bit to use.

    Aight ty. Yeah and on the system I got if you install an actual gfx card it automatically it shuts off the intergrated card. But ty for helping me out i appreciate it.
