got a problem with Nero 7...........i think

i tried buring a dvd, not a pirated movie dvd so there is no confusion, and i have a 16x dvd drive and i'm using 16x dvds. when i started to burn the dvd it wouldn't let me burn at any level but 4x. why?????????? it confuses me.

 

I do not know to much about burning DVDs (I just started doing so) but I think Nero chooses which speed to use when you are burning an specific project. But lets what other guys say!!!

 

well see i haven't had a problem burning at any other speed in the past. my last dvds i bought were 8x dvds and i burnt dvds at 8x. these 16x dvds seem to only burn at 4x though. just confused on why.

 

a piece of advice, you should be burning DVDs at a slow speed, I only burn mine at 4x to optimize quality. And the DVDs i have are 8X, and my DVD drive is also 16X. There was an extensive article providing aesthetic reasons for burning at 4X as opposed to 8x, 16x, I will try to find it to back up my case.

 

yeah because the lasers in dvd players that are OLDER can't read a disk burnt at 8x or 16x due to the fact that the grooves are not burnt deep enough into the disk for the dvd player to read. Not a problem for me cause i have a new dvd player that i've tested 16x dvds on and it can read them. just mad that instead of taking just 5min. it takes 15min. to burn something.

 

never mind i think all it is is that i need to update my firmware on my drive.
