Go to Start-->Run and type in msconfig and then run it. Then there will be a tab with a list of start up things.

that does not work on windows 2000 pro.

100% incorrect. msconfig is NOT part of windows 2000. However, you can copy the msconfig.exe file from windows xp to windows 2000 and it will work perfectly.

I remember doing this on my 2000 machine back before XP... I'd imagine if you copy the file and then put it in the same respective place on the 2000 box it should work just fine.

Pain in the arse it is. You can edit the registry yourself manually though [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

But no good if you're not confident in the registry.

As Kodo says, the XP one works fine (MSConfig In Halo's link)
