got another problem.....

Ok guys, I got another problem. I bought this pc second hand from the original owner. And all the settings are now for the original owner. From the PC's username, to the computer name. To the documents being under his name. Shared files, etc.

I want to get rid of this guy. I dont want to see his name all over the place.
Also, I wasnt given a Win XP installation CD, if that helps you guys any.

 

N_I, Can you get/buy the XP installation CD from him. If not, one of you is technically breaching MS EULA and MG is not to sympathetic to that. Bazza

Log in as Administrator, create a new user profile for yourself and give it admin rights. Then log in to the new account, you'll have your own file structure and you can delete his user profile, delete all his stuff, change the computer name, etc.

 

It might be an OEM machine for which you won't necessarily have a Windows XP disk but a recovery disk. Was this given along with the PC?

What type of PC is it?

 

surely this will only work if the other guy who has an account already on the pc isnt an administrator.

 

The Administrator account can delete any acount, even an admin-level account.

I have an emachine t1140 and I bought from this guy who, did not delete anything on the pc when I bought it, nor did he give me any kind of disk. I have the sleave for the disk, but no disk. Now, I have no way of getting in contact with this guy, so I can't even try to get the disk. I changed administrative account when I got it, so I should create a new account? will I lose all my saved data? and will I need to do anything with the new account after creating it?

 

if its XP, control panel, user accounts, and it should be listed there

 

You don't have to create a new account, if you have an existing account with admin access you can use that.
