Came home last night from night out. GF got a show to watch(looked like random site) maybe bad. SO later on fake antivirus pops up and starts scanning. I control alt delete and tried to get out of it. It then popped up with a window saying IE is infected with some keylogger name and it was windows xp 2011 that was asking me to accept and clean the pc or no and not to clean the pc. So I did the usually runs of Superantispyware 1st it scanned found 4 things I believe. I notice that normally they are "checkmarked" to delete for you but this 1 at the top wasn't and the rest were. It was something about disabledsurcity or something disabled. So I checkmarked it and restarted the pc. I then tried to run Malwarebytes by double clicking and now it comes up with a window"choose what you would want to open with" then list of items firefox, ie, java, notepad, adobe, real player, windows media. So I tried to open FF and that box came up asking what program I want to use to open with? I dbl click FF and it came up with some error I tried Malwarebytes and few programs kept saying errors and problems. I tried to then figured nothing working right and I cant open superantispyware to return what happen. So I go to start and help and support and click it on my windows xp to restore back hopefully and when I click that help and support I get the "helpctr.exe" small window box that opens like an error. I can now use FF and IE. Also maybe something else to add to maybe help clerify some issues. I click start and my computer and it comes up with error msg coming up c:windows/explorere.exe Any help? Affraid to restart

Looks like the post should be moved to Malware for help. It's a rouge program that trys to have you buy their B/S program to "fix" it.

Yeah I know its a infected. But I can't run programs without something popping up with error or something. I went to java game site to play yesterday and see if it came up an issue. It comes up with C:program files/java/jre6/lib/deploy/jqs/ff/../../../../bin/jqsnotify.exe window. I click Okay and it then continue to open.

If you know it is infected and just want to try an exe association fix, I guess it couldn't hurt to see if it works . Which OS are you running?

I don't have any disc with me thats the problem. (in the computer world) I know it sounds silly but being poor means no money for computer disc to reformat. Otherwise Ive done that long ago:-D I got windows xp sp3 (pretty sure xp3) maybe 2. I finally got into FF now and downloaded the programs from malware section and tring to open them and run them (tricky) but I actually got malwarebytes running now. And superantispyware looks like its going to run as well. I am just open after restarted once malwarebytes ends and finds what it does. Iam affraid after restard superantispyware may not work. Mostly every thing I try to open ask for how to open it. And it gives me some sort of errors. Kinda worried when time comes to do combofix. I know its a good program. But long ago it deleted the wrong file and restarted and Had to go without internet for sometime which internet is important here and being broke and waiting to get it reformated was hassle.

The file association from here (find exe) might help. Just unzip and then rightclick the .reg and select Merge.

Well like I said got Malwarebytes running. I tried downloading like you mention. But pretty much screen froze up and nothing was able to be used while MB was scanning. Found some goodies. But after getting rid of them them and restarting, and looking at the log file it shows (what I believe is less infected files) I could have sworn the MB program mention like 6 or so and only shows 4 on log. So Who knowsrolleyes Anyways restarted and got superantispyware running atm and is working. So may hold off on your thing until it comes to combofix and mgtools. Also before this mess came about I mentioned that I scanned SAS 1st and it found few things. Normally after scanning with SAS it always has things checkmarked for me to delete. Now the top one of the list about disabledblahblah wasn't checkmarked I figure it was the infection part that disabled my stuff on here. So I checkmarked it and restarted. After that it started all the mess... Now why do I mention this? Cause Iam currently re scanning with SAS due to last night not providing a log after the mess. And I got an entry so far saying systembrokenfileassociation.

Well got stuff to work so far. And got a thread in malware section atm. All hopes that stuff will be alright. Just was worried since couldn't run anything for a while.
