hey whats up, im having alil trouble. my computer isnt running games too well, games like far cry, doom 3, halo combat evolved just to name afew, even on the lowest settings possible they still jump and run real funny.im no computer expert, infact ive only recent started learning bout these damn things so im just getting the basics down right now, but i thought i had a decent computer, 2.20 GHz, 3200+ athelon , after i got my computer home i upgraded my ram to 1 gb and i upgraded my video card. now im guessing that my problem is the card right? maybe it just sucks, its an Asylum 128mb, my buddy is a computer dork (no offense guys) and he said something about going to the asylum website to get drivers, but i remember downloading updates for the card when i first installed it. my buddy also says its the games im trying to play and that, basically, my computer doesnt have the balls to run them, thats not really true though because im a RPG guy (i just like playing shooters online)0 but even neverwinter acts up on me....*sigh*.....please, help this poor fool! or ill be stuck playing alice, starcraft and diablo 2 till the end of my days. I can live with the fact that i have to buy a better card if thats what has to happen, im hoping its something else though, my computer runs flawlessly....outside of playing games

ayslum makes nvidia cards; so you will want to download the drivers at www.nvidia.com ; also you may want to find out the name for your card and not just the manufacturer; the problem today is people buy fast speed processors and alot of ram thinking thats the only thing they need to play games on their computer. drivers for 3d cards are ussaly released every few months.

Also the problem may not be your video card..it could be a host of problems if you dont have the newsest drivers for your audio card/motherboard/operating system.

The games you mention are ALL heavy on the GPU you have; the current one you have is a fx5200. Basically its a really slow gpu that can't do much when it comes to games like Halo/Doom3/FarCry or any other game that relies heavy on the 3d card. When your in the market for looking for a new 3d card with enough juice it is wise to post on forums that are knowledgeable (hint hint :D ). Depending on your budget i can recommend a few..

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Medium Performance:
    Around 100$~ ATI 9550 128mb.
    Around 150$~ ATI 9600XT 128mb.

    High Performance:
    Around 200$~ 5900XT 128mb or 9800Pro
    Around 250$~ X600 128mb

    Highest Performance:
    As high as 500$~ x800Pro 128mb/256mb or 6800GT

    What letter/symbols mean

    For Nvidia:
6xxx series = Top of the line models that are fresh out of the oven.
MX series = Nvidia series that uses only up to Dx8 compatability, are now considered poor performance cards.
FX series = The nvidia series that started using Dx9 compatible hardware. (higher Dx is better)..The lower the number the crappier the card is; starting @ fx5200.

    Ati:
7xxx series = Very old/slow cores, they are unable to use Dx9 [unsure about Dx8]
9xxx series = All the cards are compatible with Dx9, the lower the last 3 numbers the lower the performance.

x800/x600 etc series = The x series is brand new for Ati too uses higher end performance and are for hardcore gamers just like the 6xxx series for Nvidia.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LE/SE/MX = Underclocked or very slow core for the 'spread sheet' user who isnt heavy into gaming.

XT/GT/U(ltra)= Highest performance for that card available without melting it down. These cards are directly from the manufacture which is certified to work at those speeds [unlike if you overclock then your card poops out on you], also a bit more expensive.

No letters= The first release so to say of the card ; kind of like the flag ship for the rest of its clones to either put higher performance or lower it. (ie 9600 is normal, 9600SE is lower performance, and 9600XT is higher performance).
