my cat goes outside, there is some woods behind our condos, a nice cement path going to a pond that goes through the woods and deer usuallly are in the backyard in the morning/near the pond

My cat will be gone up to a week because my neighbor a few condos down takes him and has told me she does this, so she can have her grandkids play with him.

I feed my cat, pay for his vet visits etc, there is no reason why this woman is allowed to take my cat, espically that I have tags on his coller that say DO NOT FEED and have my phone number

I dont think it would be legal for someone to take my car off the side of the street, go get some food, gas it up and bring it back,
    I'd be pissed

so I want a tracker on my cat so when he is missing for a lengthy time, I can figure out he is at her house(although she doesn't answer the door when I finally break down to go find him) and I can call the cops.

    suggestions?

    Hi

Would have thought that this could be classed as kidnap, dunno what your local police would say, maybe worth asking them if you have not already, as while cats are free spirits the neighbour has no rights to take him/her into their house so that their kids can play!

What would happen if cat (hopefully not) becomes injured, are they going to pay the vet bill? maybe worth scaring the hell out of them with a ficticious vets bill for a few thousand $s

GPS would work but some of the collars I have seen for sale could just be taken off and the other tags are like transmitters that are placed under the pets fur, not a pleasent thought for the cat.

I shall inquire when I get a chance, but I didn't see a point to it, considering I don't know for sure she has him when he goes missing,.
I only know for sure she allows her grandkids to play with him because she TOLD ME, which I was so perplexed by, but I asked her not to let him inside, nor feed him. but cats don't care much who you are as long as the get food.

that would be funny, I'll ask my vet about it, as in what I can put down as his diagnosis

I looked into GPS once and they can be taken off-etc.
basically, I want to lo-jack my cat, but have no knowledge of how to do that

I do like the bill idea though, I might do that/.;)

It's not a tracker it's a camera, that takes pics of where your pet wonders.

Call the vet and see about having the cat micro-chipped. Then it will be proved that it's your cat.

But seriously, why are you worried? If the cat didn't enjoy being there, it wouldn't go back, and you're likely better off asking the neighbor to simply call you when the cat is there, instead of bothering the police.

Please, let them fight real crime, instead forcing them to come running over to solve a dispute that could be solved simply by talking to your neighbor and coming to a compromise. Be an intelligent, Adult, human being.

My cat has a micro-chip. I don't need to prove it's my cat? did I say I did?

Why am I worried? Im not worried, It's my cat, I own him, no one has a right to take my cat. why don't I take someone's child into my home and feed him and play with him? Is that ok?
I've asked my neighbor NOT to take my cat, she still does. What compromise is there? It is MY cat, it is not her cat.

You need to reread this thread as you are missing some key points,

I love this idea, but it's a cat, he isn't that big about 10lbs
I have him wearing a collar that says his name
    my phone number
    DO NOT FEED

why anyone takes something that is not theirs and after they have been asked not to take it, is beyond me

    I read the thread.

    I understood all the points.

You will need to prove the cat is yours if you call the police.

The simplest solution is simply to make it an indoor cat permanently. Don't let it go outside, and the neighbor will never be able to see it again. There, problem solved.

Halo has a good point in post #3 about the vet bills.
But on the other side, supposing the children did something that your cat didn't like and retaliates as a cat can. They could do some kind of damage to a child with those claws. Who would be responsible? You because it's your cat, or your neighbor for taking it inside?

If you've got the cat chipped, that's proof enough. Chances are the police will only sternly speak to the other party the first time, though further offenses will likely lead to arrests.
