What say you? Are they worth the time and $? Looking for a reasonably priced GPS that has voice activation. Not voice prompts (all tho I want that too) but one that recoginizes my voice and understands what I say and responds. What is out there and where is it available. Thanx everyone (anyone ?).

Actually ,my friend, a traveling nurse, wants it and will need to know directions to homes in the area. It would seem for that purpose, they are more bother than they are worth. You think?

What do you want to do with it? I use it for work, but for my personal life, a five dollar map is good enough.

I have a Garmin GPSmap76CSx. It works in my pack or pocket or in heavy treed or canyons. I'm still new to using it so I'm figuring stuff out yet. Virtually impossible to get lost, which a guy could do around here if he wasn't careful. For me it's mostly a toy. It was a birthday gift.

No way, once she has one she'll wonder how she ever lived without it,if she has to find 3-4 houses for the first time it can easily knock an hours worth of driving off, they also plan you the quickest route if you dont like it tell it to make a different one and if you make a wrong turn it'll plan a fresh route to follow, you can either look at the map or just listen to "turn left, turn right, turn in 100 yards"ect.:D

To answer your question...I would say yes and yes. Rikky mentioned in this thread that TomTom is a good unit in England and I can verify that it's also a great unit in the US. What makes TomTom even better is the recent price drop for all of its main units, which is significantly lower than any of competitors notably Garmin. I would recommend the GO 910 or The TomTom ONE. The 910 is $499 and the ONE is $299, but I bet if you look around the Internet long enough you can find lower prices for each model. Basically the 910 has all the bells and whistles you could ever need in a GPS unit. The ONE is portable and (i.e. you can walk around with it and easily store it in your pocket and/or purse) it has all the basic GPS functions without the frills. If you have any specific questions about these GPS units or GPS in general, just hit me back...I could talk GPS all day! Good Luck! ;)
