Grab+ = Mr. Magoo?

i have an occasional problem with grab+ not pickng anything up; now lately it seems far far WORSE. works a few times per install, after that, i can sit here for hours -- it just doesn't SEE anything.

i think it's some sort of "cache" problem. i have IE "check for new pages" set to "every time i visit the website" (per a tip on orbit site), i frequently hand-flush my various caches, i disc/re-connect, i reboot, i try everything. not sure any of these is doing anything b/c in the end i end up having to REINSTALL the dang app just to get things going again.

we're talking like every 3d download! or every 3d downloading SESSION at least -- once things are working, it seems they KEEP working until i get bored with it. so, yeah, i could download maybe 10 things in a row. but come 6 hours later, when i connect anew and attempt to snag just ONE, we're back to total MAGOO again.

mostly trying to snag from youtube, btw. i have used a few competing apps in a pinch, but orbit and grab+ are far and away the best for this.

had MUCH better results with YTD -- DLed anything and everything, no matter how large, with orig filenames, etc etc.... absolutely PERFECT.

until TODAY, in a new wifi zone -- everything frozen at 0% !!

is this some kind of block here? funny, everything else -- including t0rrents -- work just fine.

can't get grab+ to kickstart either. egads, my ONE day on wifi to DL a zillion things and i can't even get ONE?!

suggestions?

really wanted that 8 hour YULE LOG....

 

NVM on that last one. it appears they locked up the old one or something as soon as they issued an update.

in other words, it says "install update" and if you DON'T, everything just HANGS without warning!! talk about "planned obsolescence"....

that is beyond obnoxious. lucky i found others complaining about it or i might have sat thru 200 more failed DLs before getting around to trying the update!

 

back to grab+, things are getting WORSE. it simply doesn't see ANYTHING anymore. i've rebooted, reinstalled, reDLed, the works. in fact, i've upgraded TWICE in the time that the thing has gone dead on me.

and now even orbit's normal (link) monitoring has gotten flaky. first "download by orbit" stopped working, and i had to use "copy shortcut" to get it to grab anything, then that too stopped working (now i use copy shortcut and hand-PASTE it into "enter URL" back in the orbit window...royal pain...).

if reinstalls and upgrades aren't fixing these problems, what is it then, FIREWALL issues?

i don't mind the monitoring issue so much -- royal pain, but at least there's a workaround -- it's the grab+ thing which is totally useless now. in fact, does anyone have any recs on COMPETING apps/methods? (IE only pls!)

i use YTD (youtube downloader) for all youtube/FLV and it works great. but i still can't get vimeo, google, facebook, or various news site videos w/o Grab+.
