graphic card upgrade help

Hi, i currently have an ATI 9800 card that ive had for over 2 years now, i know PCI-e is the new must have thing but i dont have the cash to go out and get a new board+CPU+card etc. So i was hoping to upgrade to something like a 6600GT possibly the one from gigabyte which goes by the name of "gv-nx66t128vp turbo force" i believe

i was hoping someone could tell me how much better this card is than the current 9800 i have if it would be a good buy or if i should be looking at somethign else. i have between £150 and £200 to spend.

I'm pretty sure there's not AGP version, but this card (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2593) has very impressive performance at a much lower price-point than your budgeted amount. That doesn't help much, but there's gotta be something better than a 6600GT in that price range...

 

Searching anandtech's real time price engine didn't reveal as many models as expected, and neither did zip zoom fly. Maybe Newegg's selection is better, I'm searching for models there...

A full spec 6800gt for £175,you will have to wait until tomorrow for them to be in stock,what kind of cpu and system do you have,if your current system is two years old it may not be worth putting a 6800gt in

Its great when someone from the UK needs buying advice I know where to look most of the time I have search newegg and convert $ to £

 

Luckily google calculator gives and up to date conversion rate. I ran a few searches before I looked the rate up, and my rough idea of "somewhere between 1.5 and 2 dollars a pound," makes for quite a big range.

P4 HT 2.8ghz 800fbs - i o/c to about 3ghz
i have 1 gig of hyperX PC3200 RAM
Abit ic7 board.

 

Just about good enough for 6800gt,your system will be cpu limited,if in the near future you decide to overclock your cpu,your overclock will give good FPS increase
