Graphic card ???

I wish to replace my old 5200 card with a new 6600 GT. My current memory is DDR - SDRAM, however, the new card requires DDR3. I assume that in order to use this new graphic card I will be required to upgrade my memory. What say thee !! Thanks for any helf.

 

I dont think the card requires ddr3, that is the memory that is built in the card. ed

Yes, the memory on the video card has nothing to do with your system RAM. As long as there is the correct slot in your motherboard for the video card, it will work. Since you have an FX5200, it could be either AGP or PCI. Be sure that you have an AGP slot and also be sure that the 6600GT is an AGP card. (not PCI-Express, which is different from PCI)

 

Also, the AGP variant requires a molex connector to power it.

video ram is on the card & is usually faster than that in the pc. Just look at system requirements on the box.

 

Tanks for all of the replies. Wyatt Earp, yes I did check to make sure that it is an AGP. TeeFoof, my PSU does supply a power molex connector for the current graphic card. Akhilles, I do have and use Everest. It is an excellent program.

I am going to order an eVGA nvidia 6600 GT, very soon from Egger. In less than two years the price has fallen from $250 to about $100. An excellent value considering I paid $190 for the 5200 card.
