Graphics Apeture?

Ok my graphics apeture was always at 128mb (i thought it was spossed to be that way since my cards have both been 128MB) however, just now i changed it to 256MB no problem, does this mean it will be tapping into RAM to get the extra 128MB it needs?

Everest still reports my vid card of having 128MB... it should be like that right? I only gave it more juice from an extra source?

 

the aperture is indeed nothing more than taking a chunk out of the systems RAM when your videocard needs it

 

So, using an aperture of 128 gives my vid card 256 in theory? and giving my vid card 256 aperture will end up in 384, in theory?

 

The more video memory your video card has the LESS apature you need AGP apature is like vertual system memory its thare in case your video card runs out orf ram...AGP apature is WAY slower then video ram.....I recommend staying at 128.....

 

yes, but more isn't always better.
because the RAM is situated further from the GPU the data has to travel further, over a PCI bus/ PCI-Express bus which is busy and not nearly as fast as the graphic card's onboard lines.
do what Ace said, there's no gain in setting your graphics aperture higher than 128MB.

 

I have mine set on 256 with a 6800 GT. Seems to work just as good if not better than @ 128.
