I have the BFG Geforce FX 5500 OC 256 MB DDR Graphics Card. I jsut got it, and it says that it can support up to 8x. When I went to BIOS (which I open by pressing [DELETE} during startup), there was no AGP Mode support. It says I have Phoenix Award Bios v.6.0PG. It says I am running on PCI x0? What does that mean?
    http://www.geocities.com/er1cchu/1.JPG

My BIOS for the AGP aperature size. What is that? AGP Mode is an OPTION for that, but there is no 1x, 2x, 8x selection box. I tried downloading some tools here, but they dont seem to work. They flash a black screen and just close. My friend ahs the same graphics card as I do (except with 128mb) and the same game works fine. The game is Battlefield 1942. The settings are on LOW and with 1024 by 800 by 16. His game settings are at same resolution and at HIGH and running at much quicker speeds. I have an Intel Celeron 2.5 Ghz and 512 mb ddr of system memory.

    PLEASE HELP!

From what you have said your gfx card is running in pci mode, this isn't uncommon,it can be due to a few things, but the only one I have seen so far is -an uninstalled motherboard AGP driver, check this link out-
    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...HNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0xOTYmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=
fast writes,so called improves performance but just seems to make your system unstable,yu need really to find out the name of your motherboard"mobo" and install the AGP driver.

Thanks Rikky, that solved the problem of the PCI, but now, after I installed the
75.90a Xtreme G Driver, it now says my memory for the graphics card is 128mb, instead of the 256. Any ideas?

Ok, the thing still says 128MB and when I run Battlefield 1942, its all flashing colors like a rainbow.

Make that all the games I have. All the graphics are messed up with all these colors and stuff. Nothing is normal. Please help!

You should try reinstalling the whole thing from scratch remove the drivers from add/remove programs, nvidia driver, restart and install the new drivers from nvidia.

Ok, it gets weirder. I restarted my computer, and the AGP went to 4x. The game worked! So I tried 8x, but then we get all funky again. So I try to put it back to 4x, but it WONT WORK!!! It keeps going back to 8x. I move the slider, it moves back again. Any ideas?

My Bios doesnt have these options of AGP 4x. It only has AGP aperature size.

need to update your chipset drivers otherwise it will stay in pci mode

as the guy said restart from scratch otherwise you will get the same problem over and over again dx9c-first then chipset, then your own driver disc for ini then up-to date driver from nividia same routine everytime you have to reinstall.

The problem is that it stays in AGP 8x mode. The slider thing wont go back to 4x.

Find out the name of your motherboard and exact number of it from the box or manual that came with your computer and post it. :D

Ok m8,sorry getting back to you its weekend LOL and I'v had a few weekend beers,"thats just twice as many as weekday beers".
This is what you should try download this driver and put it somewhere safe you have to choose your win operating syst, then select chipset drivers, you should be lead to the latest Hyperion driver
    http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2
Once you have that,go to add remove programs and remove your nvidia drivers or any other gfx card drivers you have, from a previous card.
Restart and if win detects stuff just cancel, you then need to install your new chipset driver what you have just downloaded, run the exe file, off memory i think you have to select install agp driver and select turbo mode for the fastest settings, once done restart.

Now you are ready for your gfx card driver make sure you have or download this;-
    http://nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
select graphics card driver and your version of win."in my last link I linked you to the Xp drivers choose win98 if otherwise"
Then install, next download and install directx 9.0c from microsoft, then go into your bios and increase agp arperature size to 256 just for fun,and check your hardware acceleration is at full after that try your games again.

    good luck. :D

it still looks like that screen you posted in #12?

I'd reformat your HDD then do a full reinstall of your OS ... install in this order OS>SP2>mobo drivers>video drivers>everything else
