It should work. I have a mobo that has an ATI intergraded video that I put a PCIe Nvidia card in and it worked fine. As for damaging the mobo or system I have never seen that happen before. It just doesn't work until replaced

    NOTE!
ATI is to crossfire, as SLI is to Nvidia, which if you ever want to run 2 video cards together, you have to use accordingly. Which you can't do that with this mobo anyhow

Okay, still I'm going to wait to see what some others say, I'm very cautious with my computer.

    Welcome to MG forums :wave

I agree with Trussman, it will work as it is a PCI-Express card.

I would however avoid using an nVidia card with an ATI chipset as these conflict & with such a low performace card it will be hampered further by this conflict. If you can find a cheap ATI card that is PCI-Express 16X compliant it will work far better :)

There is no danger in using hardware in such a configuration though, I have an ASUS M3A motherboard which has an ATI Chipset, I used to use an nVidia 8600GT then a 9600GT (8800 in disguise LOL) and it worked without issue except performance. Once I got myself a new ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB the performace increase was massive :-D

Can I ask why you are not just using the integrated GPU? Will you be using the new GPU for gaming?

What do you mean by an ATI Chipset?

Actually yes, but more so, making a game. Though because my ATI card currently has no shader support it won't work with making the game. And yes I did update its drivers, no change except now my screen is darker.(Which is annoying, any help on that please =p)

Well the chipest is basically the graphics card's controller, an ATI chipset works best with an ATI graphics cars & the same applies to nVidia chipsets. As you have an onboard ATI graphics solution you will have an ATI chipset.

If you are making a game I assume you mean rendering, ideally you want the most powerful graphics card, processor, RAM & Hard drive you can possibly afford that is compatable. I would not suggest such an old card for that purpose. Something like the 8600GT 512MB or 9600GT will be much better suited & it will be a resonable price as they are both quite old, but not nearly as old as a FX5700LE.

Well with a budget like mine(Around $0) only the nVidia I have it at my disposal.(It was given to me) And the nVidia will still be better than my current card.

I know that pain, I am still building my "Ultimate gaming rig" I started in December 07 LOL

With a very small budget I have built it up. Once I get myself re-employed I will have the £300 needed to finish it off :-D

So in you're case I can confirm that it won't damage anything using it, it will work & it will be slow :-o But you have to work within you're means :)

Wost case scenario is it just won't work :-D

Now what happens if there's something wrong? The computer just won't boot?

Most likely you will get no signal on you're screen :-D or it won't boot.

Second had computer hardware can be dodgey but you should be fine, an old GPU like that doesn't handle large amounts of power so you're ok.

Oh and if you get a darker screen after a driver update you might wanna try going into you're video options & making it brighter, if that doesn't work brighten up you're display. Hope that helps :)

Yeah I just started messing with the buttons on my monitor.

Anything else I should know before switching? Also, I need a really detailed tutorial on it. As I said, I'm very cautious.

Whoa that's cheap. Too bad I'm too young to order stuff off the internet.

@ Trussman, he has an ATI chipset so why suggest an nVidia card?

Plus the GSO is rubbish, you get what you apy for though rolleyes

He said he had a nvidia card on hand to use and was wondering if it would work with his ATI chipset mobo. Of which I comfirmed it would and that the one I had in mine worked without a hitch.
The reason I used it is that I had this 9600, that a customer changed their mind on after I ordered it for them, so when the onboard chipset stop working on my kids PC, instead of buying a new GPU, I just use this 9600.
It might not work as good as an ATI GPU. but it does work.

The only difference between a 9600 GT & a 9600 GSO is onboard RAM, Streaming Processors & Price

Mainly suggested Nvidia because of him making a game or something and he needed the rendering or shading that Nvidia offered over ATI

If talking about the Radeon x200 which is onboard its the big blue connector in image above, need to install your new card in the PCI-E slot on motherboard, then connect the large blue video plug from monitor to it.

But uninstall the Radeon graphics driver first if you're using an Nvidia graphics card that you have already.

Yes, I know, but why is that plate where the monitor plugs into connected to the mouse and everything else? Doesn't the graphics card have its own separate plate?

Not the itergraded ones, they are built into the mobo
