Graphics Card/display Adapter Problem?

I have a laptop running Win10 and occasionally the displayed colours will fade sometimes graying out completely. This can be accompanied by not being able to use the 'mouse'. It usually rights itself after a short while.
Does this sound like a graphics card problem? Is there any way I can test the card to see?

Sadly, you didn't tell us anything about this laptop (like brand and model number). It might not even have a graphics "card", but instead the graphics may be totally integrated - which is very common with laptops.

Since you said the mouse is affected at the same time, it sounds like something else, and not graphics related to me. But I could easily be wrong. The first thing I always do with potential graphics problems (especially with laptops) is connect another monitor and see if the problem goes away. If still there, you know the problem is with the computer or its graphics solution. If the problem does not appear on the second monitor, it is probably the original monitor failing.

Not sure what you mean by "fade". If you mean the display some times goes dark, then next time that happens, shine a flashlight into the screen and stick your nose right up close and see if you can very faintly see your Windows desktop. If you can, then that typically indicates a backlighting issue. Depending on the screen and if LED or CCFL (code cathode fluorescent lamp) backlighting, it might be worth getting it repaired. If a CCFL, replacing the inverter at the same time is commonly done.
