    I'm having computer troubles... :(

So a few days ago I was on my and it froze so I restarted it and ever since it freezes when I boot up normally. If I go into safe mode it runs fine.

I think I have isolated the problem to my graphics card's drivers. I could be wrong though, it could be the graphics card itself or maybe the power supply??

When I'm in safe mode and I disable the graphics card and boot normally the pc runs fine, albeit at the horrible 1024x1280 resolution

I've downloaded the latest drivers off the Nvidia website for my graphics card and installed them but upon restart it boots into windows and starts up but then freezes a few moments later again. :(

    Anyone got any ideas?

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    RAM: 2GB
CPU: Intel Duo Core E6550 2.33GHz

    Hi

I would be tempted to clean install the GFX drivers again to see if they are indeed the issue as installing the new or same driver over itself may not cure the problem, also in Device manager do you have any Yellow ! marks by any device, if so what?

To clean install the nVidia drivers please follow the below

There are no yellow !'s in my device manager.

    I'm running Windows 7 32bit.

I've downloaded the lastest drivers from the nVidia site (260.99_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql.exe). Earlier I tried using nVidia - Nasty File Remover (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=582) and removed all traces of any nVidia drivers and then reinstalled the latest ones and restarted but it still froze a few moments later...

Going to try and install a clean Windows 7 on a 60gig drive I had lying around and see if the problem occurs again, if it doesn't I'll know its a software problem, if it does, i'll know its a hardware problem....

    Hopefully it'll be a software problem :)

Will let you know, any other suggestions?

So I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and everything installs fine and logs into Windows 100% but then a few moments later it freezes again and I can't do anything but manually restart the phone...

So I guess its a hardware issue then? Either the psu, ram or graphics card...
Maybe I should take it in to a pc shop to get fixed then?

    Hi

Ok cheers for the info and update, but your PC only freezes when you connect a Phone? if so what phone is it?

What software apps have you installed on your PC, please name mainly the security ones and anything that may startup with your PC? as if you can boot to Safe Mode and the PC works ok then its generally a software issue and mainly something thats starting up as the PC boots.

So sorry I didn't mean to say phone... I have to manually restart the pc when it freezes...

I did a fresh install of windows and it still froze after a few moments of booting up, it was a fresh install so there weren't any apps on it, just the ones that came on with the installation of windows...

I do find it strange that the pc works 100% in Safe Mode but freezes in normal mode :confused

    Hi there,

What would you like the make and model of? The motherboard, graphics card?
    No onboard grapics...

    EDIT:
    Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5K
    CPU Info: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz

Weird... When I run Sysspec in safe mode it says Display Adapters: | RDP Encoder Mirror Driver but I know the cable is plugged into a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT graphics card....

    Everything. ;)

If this is an OEM machine (Dell, HP, etc.) we need all of the #s (service tag, serial, etc.).

Also, please download and install Everest, a free system information tool.

Run Everest and click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report
Click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

I'm back on my other drive as I took the new install drive out but can put it back in if you like? In safe mode in my old install there are no yellow !'s...

    See attached speccy...
When I ran it... before saving I noticed that next to quite a few items in the program it said "cannot initialize CPU DLL" and next to Graphics it said "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode"...

EDIT: going to restart and try run app and save the info before it freezes...
