    I built a PC based on the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H (rev. 1.0) w/AMD 780G + SB700 Chipset and the Athlon X2 7850. It has 2GB of DDR2 PC5300 667MHZ Memory. The OS is XP.

The integrated ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics (DirectX10) still doesn't seem to cut it for the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen game. (I thought I would try).

Computer Shopper says the Radeon HD 4770 (512MB) is a great $100 card. It takes up two slots though which looks like it would cover one of the PCI slots on this MOBO.

What do you think? Would this work well? Is there a good graphics card that won't take so much space?

I would want to be satisfied with this system for a few years.

The game requires a 6600GT or ATI 9800 Pro or better.

Just for your information XP doesn't support support DirectX 10 so it's 9.0c

If you want an ATI card I would look into a 4850 As it's faster then the 4770 for the same price.

    What?

The games web site say X1600 or better. That is probably a very minimal card. The 9800 is older as well I guess.

The local computer store says they have a HD4650 with 1G that will work fine. Its $78 and only takes one slot.

That's a lesser card than the 4770 or the 4850 but I don't know what I would be giving up.

Hate to say it but you can get a HD4650 online for around 50 online.

If you want a decent card to last some time I would go with the 4850. You said you wanted a video card to last some time. HD4650 isn't a very powerful card.

The 4650 will probably play the game but not much else.

Or this one from Gigabyte has a Zalman cooler. GV-R485ZL-512H Tom's Hardware says it runs very cool but is the loudest fan in his box.

I have an 80 mm and a 120 mm case fans.

The computer shop I go to as the Sapphire HD4850 with 512GB. I believe it has a larger fan now than when it first came out. Best Buy has a Visiontek 4850 with a big fan.

So which 4850 card is the best? Just a 512 Gig 4850.

How many watts is your PSU?

Looking around you may want a 4870. 4870 is like 160 and it's faster then the 4850

They are much the same just minor differences. ATI makes the GPU and then a manufacture puts it on a board makes the ram etc. Some may have faster mem and gpu clocks.
