This doesn't address your question and I apologize for that, but browsing down your everest log under 'storage' the line SMART Hard Disks Status FAIL caught my eye. You might want to seriously consider backing up anything you don't want to lose, as every time I have seen that SMART status warning, the hdd hasn't been long to bite the dust behind it. I'm not sure that that is an indicator of imminent failure in every case, but it has been in my own experience.

As for taking a crack at your original question, what did you change to get from not working at all to working at a reduced volume? If you are using more than 2 speakers, are you certain that you have each wire plugged in correctly, so that you have sound going to each speaker?

i always keep afew copies of everyhting on some externals so thats not a concern.. what do u think is going to go wrong? just general hd crash? if so i dont mind i was planing on putting a new 500g one in and re install windows again...

what solved my problem im not sure exactly, i had tried installing all the standard realtek sort of drivers, but one guy suggested one on another topic, i dont think it was the right one for my sound card, but it seemed to somewhat do the job.. at least i have audio now.. oh and yes im sure everything is plugged in correctly.. i just got some headphones pluged in.. all the settings are for headphones too so i dont see any other reason than the wrong driver.. or something not properly instaled.. uve got me more concerned about my hdd failing than this now haha :p

Honestly I really don't know much to tell you about drivers. I've been fortunate not to have had any problems in the past with them... until just recently; I've got a problem with a lan driver right now that I asked about in the drivers section here, you'd probably be best served to direct your question there.

I don't see a soundcard listed in your everest log, so if I'm correct that you are running onboard sound, if I were trying to fix the problem for myself I would first visit the mobo manufacturer's site and dl the audio drivers from there. For your mobo, everest says "Motherboard Name Unknown". So. If you don't know what your mobo is, you could try dl'n Belarc Advisor from here on the MG site and running it, and it will give you a nice read out of every last bit of hardware and software on your comp. Get your mobo type from there, and then going to the manufacturer's website to download the original drivers. ...but like I said if you ask in the drivers section, I bet in a short time you can have a much clearer idea of what your options are from there than from me!

About your hdd, everytime I have seen that SMART status fail line, the hdd has just quietly died on me. When it goes, there is an screen that will come up after your boot screen that will tell you there's been a problem loading windows. I believe I remember it trying to load windows and not being able to, and in others just not even trying. I've had it happen 2x to me over the years, both times on an old hdd, and other times with friend's comps too. So if you have everything backed up, and are planning on getting a new hdd anyway, I wouldn't worry about it much at all past just being aware that it might not make it much longer.

Well that's an odd one... I certainly know ASUS, but I've never heard of a Lithium line, nor do I see it on their site. On the Belarc log, be sure you're reading the first line under the heading "Main Circuit Board". Mine, for instance, reads "Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A785TD-V EVO Rev X.0x". The relevant info there now that you know you have an ASUS board is the model, in my case M4A785TD-V EVO. With that info, you should be able to pull all the drivers you need off their website @ http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. At the very least you should be able to contact ASUS and their tech people should be able to walk you through making sure you have the appropriate drivers installed. This is their tech support page. If you need the serial number of your board it is the next line down on Belarc under the mobo name. I'm afraid that's all I can tell you regarding drivers, hopefully you will have luck with their tech people, or you can try posting in the driver section here for more knowledgeable help. Good luck!
