Hey guys, I'm buying a new comp and i was jw if in general, can ATI and Nvidia video cards be installed on practically any mobo?

Im thinking of getting a ATI x1900GT card for my pci x16 slot, and was jw in general if you could put it in any motherboard. (not sure if certain mobos can only have nvids or ati cards xD)

    Thanks guys ><

Any mobo with an x16 PCIe slot will take any PCIe graghics card.

Just dont try to run sli unless the mobo has sli printed on it somewhere.

Having said that there is one mobo (msi fusion) that can utilize both cards but not by much its in early development.

    Just about.

However, you couldn't use two Nvidia cards on a Crossfire board, or two ATI's on an SLI board.

And make sure your PSU can handle the new card.

    It'll be risky!

I would prefer to have the safety of a good psu before putting a gpu in that was bought with your hard earned cash!

The PSU is one of the most important components in a PC, it connects to everything, ans when it blows, can take anything with it.

Overloading a PSU is a shortcut to something going wrong, not a cheaper PC upgrade.

I would upgade PSU first, then get the GPU. i would recommend to you the Corsair TX750.
