It looks like an AGP slot, but I doubt it'll run faster than 4x, if that.

Download Everest and see if it can provide any more information about your computer. If you can take a screenshot of the details and post here then that would help :)

I would just go to system information to look up your motherboard manufacturer and model number, and then go to the manufacturer's website and look up the model number. That should tell you everything you need to know about slots, chipsets etc.

note: if you don't know how to get to system information this is how. Go to start menu, then "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "System Tools" and finally "System Information"

I gather from http://www.ciao.co.uk/Compaq_Presario_5831__5362394 that you have an AGP 2X slot. Don't expect to make much of a gaming machine with it, no matter what you do.

I believe you can choose any 4X/2X rated cards, which greatly limits your selection. Whether some of 8X cards are backwards compatible to 2X, I'm not sure about that.

4X/2x cards are pretty scarce new - I tried to obtain one recently for a PC I was putting together out of donated parts for a needy individual. I finally found a used one at a local computer store for a reasonable price. Ebay is an option, also.

I did run across this used one just now:

    http://www.directron.com/atirage12832.html

I tried to find some info on it, and found this:

    http://ati.amd.com/products/faqs/rage128faq.html

All the Rage 128's listed say they are 2X and require at least a PII/III or compatable; The data I found doesn't address WinXP or the amount of recommended system RAM though.

I am not suggesting you buy this card - I just thought it might give you a starting point for some research if you look for one on-line. Hope this helps!

    :)

The file you attached is only a small part of the Everest report; it contains nothing about your AGP video specs.
