graphics card

aight guys i wanna play HL2 and Doom3 but i cant b/c i have a crappy GF4 MX card, and i wanna buy one but i wanna buy my own comp 1st and not use this gay family one, (only have like $500-600 rite now) but anyone kno anywhere i can get a real good comp in that price range or like a lil over it? or should i just get a new card for the family desktop to play the games? and if so, what kinda card would i need to run both games nicely, would this work? http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-102-303&DEPA=1

 

that card would work just fine. you could get a computer for that price, but id suggest getting just the card, and saving up moer money until you can get a real killer system

9600GT is generally considered better than the 9800SE. The 9800SE is pretty gimped in a few areas where high-end gaming will really count.

But I agree with Dan about saving up, especially because Doom 3 is currently running best on nVidia (6800 vs X800), and HL2 may perform similarly well. If possible, wait six months, but try to wait at least three.

 

ooo well anyone kno where i can get a nVidia card thats not too much but will run doomIII real good? maybe at newegg? i dunno

 

I've got a GeForce2 MX 400. I can play Doom 3 @ 640x480 with all the widgets turned off and still have decent fps (30-40). Doom 3's real killer is the lighting effects, since I suspect they all have to be done with software (that is, there's no portion of the hardware GPU explicitly dedicated to this kind of stuff, so they have to use the general math abilities of it).
