I have a 2.8ghz pentium 4 on xp i had some problems recently i had to remove 512mb of ram so now im left with 512mb ram .

now heres the question i have a 64mb intergrated graphics card i dont play games with my pc but would getting a basic 128mb graphics card improve the performance of my pc?

yes, you'd be removing load off the cpu.

If you don't play games, why bother?

The performance difference in general use would be minimal, if at all noticeable.

You would be better off with more RAM. Why did you remove 512 MB?

If it was incompatible, try another stick.

Well if you don't play any games on your pc, you'd just be waisting money. Without the purpose of gaming, graphics cards just enhance image quality and any other digital movement like the visualizations on Windows Media Player. Allthough i could be wrong, but if I am, I doubt it would increase your performance to be noticable.

My computer wouldnt boot with the stick in.
you helped me with the problem.

I use it mainly to watch mpg's and avi's .

Yeah video cards don't take effect on video formats as much as i know, at school in PC class people watch online videos all the time. Those pc's only have nVidia Vanta 16mb video cards in them. Hardly enough to play LAN Quake III Arena ;)

Funky Munky, if you don't play games and just use it for general work and watching movies, you won't see any benefit buying a video card.

Save your money, and either leave it, or try other memory. (Sorry, I don't remember the memory thread in question)

Its fine i wasnt expecting you to remember it.

I might well try new memory.

    Cheers.

I dont realy know what to do .

I know the speed has droped since getting rid of the 512 module obviously but ive never really explored the whole graphics card world so i dont really know wether to go with what i know and was happy with or try something new .

As Insomniac and many others have said there is no point getting a video card other than to play games better, you have two choices IMHO buy another 512 stick of memory that more closely matched the one you already have installed or sell\part ex the memory you have and install a 1meg stick or two 512's

I have two comps one with 512 ddr 2700 an one with two 512's of 3200,the difference between them for surfing and windows browsing wouldnt persuade me to buy another 512 for my older computer and yours has a much higher spec cpu

If your comps doing what you want it to and your happy with it why bother
