I had to reformat my computer over the weekend due to a virus that my children found while looking for games to play. I was asleep as was my wife and they had gotten up a bit earlier than usual and decided to play on the computer. Stupid me left the AV disabled so that I could play LOTRO the night before.

Anyways, can a virus mess up hardware in any way?

I had no issues before the virus and subsequent format. Now this is what I get:

If you are unable to see what's wrong just look at the armor. There are pieces of her armor missing. There's just nothing there. They look like holes. It also happens to the horses, and to the tents and other things as well.

I know it's not a heat issue as that was the first thing I checked for. Under load my GPU stays in the 60-65 degrees Celsius range and my CPU is in the 30-36 degree Celsius range. Ram is warm to the touch, but not overly hot, in other words I can keep my fingers on it indefinitely.

I have the newest drivers for the card and even tried older drivers as well. I used Drivercleaner to help uninstall it.

When I reboot, it goes back to the way it should in game, but about 10 minutes later or so, I start getting the same issues.

I have no clue what to do next.

    Any ideas?

Doubt this is a hardware problem, have you tried reinstalling the game? Checked for all latest patches?

This is a fresh install after the reformat. So in essence, it's been reinstalled.

Also, because its an MMORPG you are unable to play unless you are completely patched to what the servers are currently running client wise.

I would make sure windows is up to date. Some drivers don't work well unless net framework is up to date and make sure dx is up to date also.

Done and done. First thing I did after I reinstalled windows was to use windows update. I also used the latest DX client.
