How do I take a graphic image that's on a solid background color, and make the background "transparent"? For example: my avatar is on a white background; how do I make the white background 'disappear' so that whatever the background is where I put my avatar (here at MG it would obviously be the olive drab Army color) is invisible, and you'd only see just the Serious Bomb without the white background?

    THANKS!

(BTW- I don't have anything like Photoshop, but I'm assuming I can do this with Paint, or a freeware alternative like GIMP or XnView or something; I'm currently running Win7 X64)

OK- I just tried using an 'icon extractor' type of program, and I got the Serious Bomb way too small on a purple background, and the 2nd attempt got an OK sized image but in "lo-res" and outlined in purple but it was on a "transparent" background....
    :confused

You would have to convert the image to a PNG and manually remove the white area. In Adobe Fireworks there is a tool for doing this.

As you do not have Fireworks, I would be willing to do the conversion for you. Please PM me if you decide to do it with a link for the source file/email address to get the file.

Thanks collinsl, but you seem to have PMs turned off, so I attached the image here as a zipped PNG. If you turn your PMs on, you can PM me when you've finished working on it, or just attach it here.... THANKS!!!!!!!!

    Thanks!!!

(I was going to use it for my avatar, but MG has a file size limit, so it won't work, but I have other plans for it! I just tried to add the same color background as is here at MG, but it came out a bit off, but that's OK ;) )

    Go here http://www.myimager.com/
upload your image and under Adjust, one of the options is transparent.

I remember using free online edit tools a few years back but I can't find my notes on the sites I used. If I find them (usually happens after the time to edit my post has past), I'll post the sites here, if they are still active.
