Some good points. I need to add a few of my own:
    >Nothing wrong with grade inflation.
    >All courses should be pass fail.
    >Colleges should be proactive in helping graduates find jobs.
    >For students that tire quickly of the partying scene, the colleges should offer substance free dormitories.
****Some may see this as coddling, I say that there is enough stress out there, learning should be fun. Remove the stress factors, and performance goes up. Of course there will always be a few that try to take advantage of any system, I say so?

I had to chuckle when I read the article. It made reference of parents over teaching, parents who were overbearing, the protectors etc.

One of the children I watch is a 2 1/2yr old girl. I decided to try painting with her. I got the area all set with paints, water, and cloth. We all know what happens when you use one color and dip it in another, without first rinsing out the brush. I was there coaxing her along, everytime she went to use a different color of paint she forgot to clean it off with the water. After about the tenth time I had to remind her to rinse the brush, she gave me an exasperated sigh and said "Here, you do" I got the hint. LOL

I backed off, went and did something else, leaving her to her art work. When I returned she was all smiles, proudly showing off her black and brown mess.LOL The paints were ruined because they were all mixed, so I had to toss them out. But, she was so happy when her father came to pick her up,running with her masterpiece in hand.

Yeah, I guess we all learn by trial of error.

heh, it appears it's all the parents fault.

I know i feel like im learning better now I can make a choice whether I study, not being forced to.

Considering the child develops his / her personality base by the time they're 2 years old, yeah, I'd say most of the weight is on the parents..

Very informative article... I tend to agree, I've recently gone back to college and as a 37 yo mother with two teens of her own I was really taken aback at the lack of decision making skills I have seen... at every break and between every class that is the first thing at least 75% of these folks are doing, flip open a cell phone and call Mom... IF the phone don't ring in the middle of class... I have also seen where I am guilty of doing some of the same things to my own daughter especially.. My son is WAY independant... Thanks for sharing this =D

Great article Kodo. Should be required reading for all parents, school boards, and politicians. The primary goal of child rearing, both for parents and for schools, is to make balanced, capable adults. Coddling them and removing all possible "stress" from their lives deprives them of learning how to COPE with stress. Currently the "training wheels come off in college", and there is pressure to keep the training wheels ON through college, which will only push off the crash & burn confrontation with real life until after college, when they're trying to get & keep a job, and start a family. We're wrecking our kids.
