Great Idea

I have a great idea for a programming project for a group or something. How about a hacking sim? Where you are a person who has to hack and earn money to buy computer upgrades and internet upgrades and other things. And you can hack different ways like Chat Room Hacks, Script Hack, Scam, Spam. And you would earn money for each one. and like the higher ones like script hack's would get you more money but youw ould need a fast computer and a high internet connection to do it. And you would also have to be sure not to get caught by the police. OH, and you could also choose whetehr you wanted to hack the poor, medium class, or rich people. And like if you had a crappy computer you would get blocked from the rich people because of their firewall. and you would get more money depending on which type of person you were stealing from. I think that would be an awesome game. And during the simulation you would have to have some knowledge like if you wanted to do a Chat Room hack you would have to type something to a premade bot and get the bot to click on a link or something. So its not all just clicking and getting lucky, you would have to have some skill.

I think this would be a great project. It could easily be done in c++ or vb. I think we should get a bunch of people together and make this, sort of like a majorgeeks.com members project. Would anyone join it?

I dont want to bust your bubble NeoNemesis but I believe there is a game that pretty accurately fits your description... you'll have to wait for me to look it up on IGN a bit later to confirm the title...
It was quite a fun little game though a little linear because you always had to do the low paying jobs first until you could get the kit which would allow you to complete the harder missions... I only ever played a demo on it....

LOL not a problem, I wonder what game this is though. I had a game like this called HackerX on my graphing calculator so thats where I got the idea from.

Thats the daddy... I was trying to think of the name... I got a demo with an edition of PC Gamer what must have been 1.5 - 2 years ago now... was quite a fun little title

 

Same actually I went out and bought it too. Good games developer, lets hope they bring other titles out too

There is also Blue Sky, which is more "console" based... I just played it and its okay... same idea as Uplink, but with a Linux-eque command line.

Heck, I made a "hacking sim" myself in QBasic, it was a bit rudimentary, but It had basic function like manpage and stuff. I made it modular too, so you could add commands to it easily.

Just need a telnet client and your brain.

 

i love qbasic, it was my first language i learned on the computer. What have you made in it besides that game?

 

hehe I dabbled in QBasic before getting my eager mits on a C compiler - Turbo C/C++ IDE by Borland had just become Freeware.

Anyone remember when there was that gorilla.bas game? I never tried to understand the code but I remember playing the game. Them were the days

 

try Dev c++, much better then that borland PoS.

 

i tried that once but it never seemed to work on my computer. I would get to the installation part and then it would say illegal operation and close. I"ll have to try agian.

 

Ditto. Compilers must hate me because NONE of them have worked. *sigh* No wonder they're free lol.

 

for c++ I use the old gcc.

 

I don't get the GCC page. It's very confusing.

i remember gorilla.bas. was the best game ever. i still have it and play it. simple but great when your a kid trying to blow up your friend. it also gave me a great understanding of angels and speed.

i remember i got killed by my family cause i ****ed up the code back in the day.
took me ages to fix it.

Yea gorilla was an awesome addictive title - its easy to see how Worms became such a hit - it took the very addictive elements of that and adapted it to appeal completely to the masses.
