I've been using and recommending Format Factory for years!! It will convert just about any audio or video format, to just about any other format. It will NOT rip protected DVDs (ie: store-bought, rental, or commercial DVDs), but there's plenty of tools for this. If you spend any time converting audio or video to different formats, you should definitely check out Format Factory. It's excellent!!

(it's way better than the Freemake Video Converter and the equally dismal Hamster Video Converter that I discussed a few days ago)

Hmm, I've just been trying out freemake and not very impressed as I had to scrap a couple of DVD's. More likely due to PEBKAC.;) Let's see what this Format Factory has to offer. Thanks.:)

I miss quite a few things on here eh?;) Par for the course and thanks for the link.:) Yup, FF is very nice indeed! I wonder when this person will make it shareware as he would certainly deserve it.

I also have used Format Factory. I forget where but there was a big forum topic on this program. Most there said that >90% of it was stolen code and violated some other "agreement." Oh well, I just know it works good.

I've been using Freemake Video Converter for a month or so now and it seems to work fine for supported formats, not so good for non-supported formats. It will load up and convert, for instance, a Divx video but many things could happen in the conversion process.
WinX Video Converter is much faster than Freemake and gives you more options except that all videos in the list have to be converted to the same option. You can't put 3 videos on the list and convert one to 16:9 DVD, one to 4:3 DVD and a third to MP4. Oh well.
I will have to try Format Factory. Sounds like a good one! Thanks!

Great tip DLB, Just to make sure I am reading this corectly (I hope I am) can this program convert M4A files (Itunes) to MP3. I have DL some music from Itunes (which up until now, I have not been able to find anything to would convert them to MP3) and have wanted to put on CD because one of my vehicles does not have the Aux plugin.
Waiting patiently with bells on. :-D

    Thanks again!!!

The Format Factory web site is a bit lite on details; it doesn't have a full list of supported formats. However, I did read something in their FAQs that leads me to believe that if you have the M4A codec installed (or an alternative like 3ivx), it will handle the conversion... However, I cannot GUARANTEE this! Your best bet would be to contact the Format Factory people and ask 'em yourself: http://formatoz.com/about.html

EDIT - another free program Quick Media Converter does list M4A as a format it will decode; this means it will convert an M4A file to another format, but it will not take another format and convert to M4A.... their home page is full of tutorials and helpful info, check it out at this link. Yet one more free program that supports decoding M4A is Super. Again, check their web site for details. I hope this helps!
