I am having issues with video converters. I have Windows 8 and every time I install a converter I end up with a green picture, if I uninstall converter everything works fine. I have tried Freemake and Any Video converter and they both have same issue. My comp is only 3 months old and I am very puzzled. Can anyone please help???????? :(:(

Hi I download shows from EZTV and they are MPEG4, is there anyway to change that to AVI so I don't need to convert them to AVI so won't need the converter

Have you tried the converters since you installed a CoDec pack??
Compressor/Decompressors (codecs) interpert the video stream, without the right codec you might get audio and no video, or green video... once the codecs are installed, you can usually convert into many different formats without issue.
And now your admitting to piracy, so good luck keeping this thread open.

What videos are you trying to convert?

Most video converters come with codecs installed. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to convert them. My go to video converter is video to video. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/video_to_video_converter.html I tried Freemake and didn't care for it, poor results. I don't recall if I've tried Any Video but if I did it didn't give me good results either.

I might be wrong, but I think you may be missing the codec for mp4. That may be why the videos won't run or convert. OK sounds obvious, but I believe the mp4 codec is an Apple owned codec, and I am not sure, but I think the only way to get the codec is to install the QuickTime player from the Apple site. It comes with an updating utility and careful to opt out of iTunes, but this is how I have always gotten this particular codec.

I have the K-Lite codec pack, but I if I recall it didn't have the mp4 one. This was many moons ago, as I keep installers of programs which work well for me, then update as necessary. I have installed the same codecs on this XP pc as on the previous one I had. For this reason, I can't say that mp4 is not in the newest version of K-Lite or another codec package, but installing QuickTime is what I had to do to play/convert to/from mp4...

Green Screens are normally the result of a conflict in codecs - uninstall all Converters and codecs - and use HandBrake

Uninstall all those video codecs then install VLC, a video player. It will play mpeg4 files without you needing to install codecs.

Format Factory is all I ever use and the results (mp4 to avi) are always perfect. No need to install/uninstall codecs... the programme is complete.
