    Hi guys

I'm back and safely now on the west coast of USA! Yayy!! the move went well, as did my fiance meeting all the family back in the UK. I hope you are all doing well and am looking forward to more MG fun once again :)

I'm having a PC problem however (inevitable), and not sure which forum to place it in as it may be software or hardware. Maybe some nice Admin (kissy kissy) will re-direct this for me in due course if necessary.

My PC power supply had this funky switch to change from 240V (UK power outtage) to 110V (USA), so I didn't need to buy a new supply. Cool! Everything fired up fine. But on boot up I got this error message...

"Boot from Atapi CR Rom Failure. Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press Enter"

I don't understand why it should want this now...never did before and quite frankly, I don't have the disk (not my choice...blame the cheapskate ex!)

Anyone have any (cheap) helpful advice please....it would be greatly appreciated.

do you have an obscure CD in the CD ROM drive?

have you checked all connections to the components of your computer and made sure they are getting power?

you also may try reconfiguring the BIOS

you might also want to try refitting the cables i am having almost the same problem but i think mine is a heat problem how far was your move maybe its releted

Thanks for the suggestions guys and the welcome backs.

    Scorcer - hi there dude!

There is no obscure CD in the drive...already checked that in hope that there was!

I haven't checked all the components, if you mean within the OS. Not sure what or how to progress on that one. Obviously all the peripherals are getting power i.e. mouse, keyboard etc as they work.

I've been into the BIOS and don't really have enough understanding to confidently make changes there. I checked the drives for boot up and made a change or two which made no difference so changed them back. I'm not brave (or clever) enough to take it further! Hehe.

N5638J - when you say refitting cables do you mean just refit, or buy new ones to refit? I have moved from the UK to USA so the move is about 6000 miles! Maybe it is the different altitude or lack of pollution in Oregon that is doing it *grins*. My heat temps are well within the limits btw.

Thanks for all suggestions....please keep them rolling in!

It might be that you have had a cable jiggle lose inside the case, maybe on your cd-rom or where that cable hooks to motherboard???

Thanks for those last two suggestions guys.....I will go and have a good wiggle!!! :)

OK....I have wiggled and wiggled and wiggled, and guess what? They sure beat up your contents when you ship stuff internationally!! The problem was the ribbon cable from the hard drive to the motherboard. It had come completely out of the motherboard slot and was wafting around with no particular place to go! Once I re-attached that the PC booted with no problems.

Thanks to all for you helpful advice once again. You're awesome!
