Grisoft AVG7 - UGH Will not uninstall

Hello everyone....
I'm new to this forum, but after several hours of deep frustration, I'm hoping and praying someone can help.
I had been getting many explorer fatal errors and decided to load a new virus scanner.
I had already been using Grisoft's AVG7 as a trial version and didn't realize my trial/free period time had already expired.
MY OS is Windows XP Home Version
and my ISP provides MacAfee for free, so I was just simply making the change as somehow, which I believe a trojan had already invaded my pc.
MacAfee loaded with no problem and the wizard completed and started it's first scan....then after only about 2 minutes of scanning my entire pc went black and shut down.
I had already un-installed AVG7, but then for somereason it was back on my list of softwares. MacAfee tech support indicated that MacAfee will not work if there is already a virus software loaded......not to mention there's some horrible trojan as I suspect that is causing problems as well.
My computer crashed at least 20 times within 3 hrs of working and using adaware programs and starting in safe mode and attempting system restore to a previous date, but nothing has worked.

The bottom line is that when I go to the control panel to uninstall AVG7.....it gives an error message for installation not removal and the error states "Installer initialization failed due to the following error: Initialization language file "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\setup.Ins" failed.

I even tried to reinstall it to see if maybe it would install and then I could remove it.

HELP HELP HELP....I've got to MacAfee reinstalled and get these trojans off my pc.

PLEASE......Grisoft will not assist unless you are a registered account holder and I was just using AVG7 based on it's reputation and didn't realize it was only for a trial basis.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

First delete grisoft's program entry in window's program folder then download grisoft's free version of avg anti virus and if you need a firewall program you can download zonealarm from http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

 

Pretty sure all you have to do is sign up like you did here. I know they help with the free version.

 

After having a look at their main page for the pay version I think I'll stick with the free. The page I was trying to access just kept reloading & reloading & reloading.

See if you can get in at their free section.

For uninstallation of "tricky software" try reinstalling then using either CCleaner or Your Uninstaller! 2006 (my fav) to remove it properly (scrub reg, ass files, etc):

Hi, I have a simelar problem with avg, but having read some of the posts on here I have made a mistake having 2 anti viruses.

I have had avg on my computer for a couple of weeks which has been fine with norton (I downloaded it cos I wanted to be rid of norton and its annoying tactics but didnt know how).

I did a system restore cos my puter was running really slow yesterday before I tried to uninstall norton and then found that it had put a load of stuff (ie google earth, avg and some others) back on my computer that I thought I had got rid of before (to see if that helped my computer run quicker (it didnt)).

If anyone is still with me here and hasnt snoozed off yet, there's more!

So I undid the restore but found that avg wasnt working at all but was still in there, it wouldnt let me uninstall it either, So I had a look on the grisoft site and it advised me to run the avg uninstall from thier site, which seemed to work, (although I still seem to have files, but deleting these have made no difference) but now it wont let me reinstall avg and comes up with this message half way through

Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avg7dos.lng: creating file....
Changing language to 67698688 failed.
General failure.

I dont want to uninstall norton and not be able to get avg, can anyone help?

I have put this message on an msn site (non computer related topic) and I have been advised to try this site (which looks great btw) and was also advised to get Computer Associates e-trust, free for a year, which looks good, I would like to completely get rid of avg and norton (have found the uninstall tool, thanks!) before I download anything else else, but it also seems to me my computer is behaving in a strange manner!

Any Advice will be most gratefully received!

Symantec's Norton is notorious for not allowing another antivirus through, that said you should not be running two of any antivirus's. So your choices are to download the FREE AVG package and not install until you have uninstalled Norton my suggest is after you uninstall Norton use CCleaner available here at MG to remove ALL traces of Norton. I cant download anything from avg cos it comes up with the error message before it does much, although it might let me once norton is gone, but if I need to go with another one people on here seem to rate avast, is it as good?

Daft questions: Once I have got rid of norton is it safe going on the internet to download a new anti virus?

do I need ad aware or something as well?

Do I use CCleaner in between norton and downloading a new anti-virus, and will it clean up my whole system? (which I think it needs)

I need my hand holding during this traumatic time in my computer illiteracy
