Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.

How do I fix this? I already uninstalled the driver, than reinstalled it, still nothing. I booted up to the last best known configuration, still nothing. I googled this, and everyone is saying the same thing, reinstall the driver, or boot up in safe mode with last best known configuration, but nothing has worked.

Well, have u made sure all the ide cables aren't loose or any type of loose connection? If this isn't the problem then it sounds like a registery problem, but that should of been sorted by re-installing the drivers. I've got a feeling your drive could just be is dead, is it very old?

It's not the CD-ROM, I swapped the one that I thought was broken, but it's still doing the same thing. The cables are plugged in correctly.

It's an ide cable? The cable could be bad.
Also, ide channels go bad on motherboards sometimes, too.
