    Hey!

My friend just bought a new nvidia GT240. But when he plugs it into his computer, it doens't get past POST.

    The mobo is
    MSI MS 7525 ver: 1.0

He has a more than a sufficient PSU, for the passive gt240, Corsair cx400w.
Just as a note, he has bought this because at first we had thought that his oem psu was the problem.

He claims the PCI-E slot is not broken.

The card works fine, he tested it with his friends computer.

There are the screens from his boot:

He can only get to boot and past WITHOUTH the card inserted. If he inserts it, his computer locks up before POST.

I am really out of ideas for what could be wrong.

If you speak german, here's the original thread:

    Thanks for ur help. iZver

Does he have onboard video? Kill that in BIOS first if it's the case. Otherwise, nothing more that I can say.

    Hi

While ther PSU sounds good what was his friends PSU wattage when the card was tested in that PC?

Try clean uninstalling the nVidia drivers and re-installing using the below quoted guide

Unhook any surplus hardware say USB devices and Printers to see if Power is the issue as 400W is not great these days to run a modern PC, I'm personally up in the 1000W range now to cover bases.

From what I can see from the pics it looks all correct.

It's possible his mobo PCI-E Slot is shot.

Does he have another video card to test in it?

Don't think this is going to help him if he cant post with the video card in.

    ^ that.

And I am running 4850 with cx400w, flawlessly. He should have the slightest problems with his passive dwarf. XD

And, no, there does not appear to be any option of disabling the on_board graphics. Only to change the adapter from pci to pci-e.

I have suggested about the same. Get a pci-e peripheral to double check if the pci-e is really working. He can't. It's a shame, but he'll resort on buying a new mama.
