GTA San Andreas loads intro screens but then abruptly quits to desktop

Hello there, I'm a new user, trying to install and run GTA San Andreas on my friend's brand spanking new Acer desktop PC. It was previously installed and ran fine on his laptop.

Some specs:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition, Version 5.1 SP2

Processor: Pentium 4 CPU, 2.93 GHz
RAM: 960MB of RAM

Graphics: SIS 661 FX/GX Mirage Graphics

Graphics Driver: 6.14.10.3680 - provided by SIS.

Put the (proper, legit copy) disc in and it installed correctly (as far as I can see - no error messages or anything unexpected).

When we try running the game it will show the opening screens and run the intro, but as soon as we try to go any further it seems to crash, dropping back to the desktop without any error messages.

I've had a search through the board, in the vague hope that this hasn't been answered before. I hope I've provided sufficient specs, but would obviously be happy to provide any more.

Try updating your videocard drivers, and/or soundcard drivers, I had this problem with my GF6600GT, ended up being a driver compatibility problem with video and realtek sound drivers.

Now it works fine, just playing it then actually.

 

Ok my comp does the same thing only it gives an error.
My specs are
cpu 733 mhz pentium 3
nvidia 5500 geforce fx card 128 mb (just got the new drivers)
512 ram
I can run fear and half-life 2 AND swat 4 but this crashes so i dont know and all those games are far and above what my comp has and they do fine.
Any ideas?
