GTX Video Card Locks Motherboard

I have a MS-7697 (A55M-P35) motherboard in my desktop and I recently bought a GTX 750 Ti video card to replace my old NVIDIA 9500 GT.

After swapping them out, the motherboard hangs at the opening black screen just before the splash. It won't enter bios at all. It only beeps once upon start up (with a B2 at the bottom right hand corner). After about a minute and half, there's another single beep and then it sits on a black screen with a blinking prompt.

I tired a CMOS clear but that didn't work, and when I reinstall my 9500 GT, Windows boots just fine. The only other thing I could try is updating my bios, but I see the latest version was released in 2013 and this card came out in 2014 as far as I know (which doesn't' seem like it would solve a compatibilityproblem).

Speaking of compatibility, I looked up the card online at the following site before I bought it and it does list that card as working with this model motherboard: https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/video-card/?compatible_with=msi-motherboard-a55mp35

So any thoughts on what could be locking up the motherboard with the GTX 750 Ti and what I could do to get it working?

    Thanks!

What other hardware are you running ( hard drives, things plugged into usb ports, memory etc.) and what is the wattage on your PSU?

I had this issue before with a graphics card and after i put in a power supply with more wattage the black screen issue was fixed

    Thanks for the reply.

When testing, I wanted to reduce the amount of compatibly issues down to the least possible. So I unplugged virtually everything I could from the start, so that only the GTX 750 Ti and one SATA cable for my OS HDD was connected to the motherboard (in addition to RAM and CPU of course). So there really isn't anything left to conflict that I'm aware of.

As for power, I anticipated this ahead of time as well. Before purchasing the GTX 750 Ti I ran a check using Neweggs calculator. It said my required power should be around 470 watts even with the new GTX. With that I'm running a quad-core, two 3.5' HDD drives, a DVD-RW and two sticks of 4GB RAM on a low-medium end motherboard. My current power supply is 520 watts. Here are the product details for mine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...030&cm_re=neo_eco_520c-_-17-371-030-_-Product

Any additional thoughts? Unfortunately I'm out of things I can think of to try.

Update to the above post (couldn't edit for some reason):

My research online suggests that 40 amps on the +12 rail should be enough. Here are the full output specs of mine:

    +3.3V@24A, +5V@24A, +12V@40A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A

Before putting in your new video card, did you uninstall your previous display drivers?

I tried to uninstall the official NVIDIA drivers but Windows just reinstalled them on the next boot. I had figured I would just pop in the GTX 750 Ti install disc and select the clean install option (which would remove the 9500 GT drivers).

The screen literally goes black the second the desktop boots up (it doesn't even have a chance to go to the splash screen before the BIOS). Would a driver problem load that quickly? If I make sure the other 9500 GT drivers are uninstalled and then immediately swap the GTX 750 Ti in before the system has a chance to reboot, could that work (as long as the older drivers are gone)?

I was able to replicate issue on a spare pc, and it was due to previous display adapter drivers installed.

What i did was uninstall the previous display driver adapters and then i booted into my OS just using the integrated graphics. Then when i noted windows was clear of my other graphic cards drivers i put the current graphic card i wanted to use and it didn't give me a black screen.

I can't say this will work for you for sure, however other than spending a bit more time with this it will either work or it doesn't. If it doesn't work like i said you will just have to reinstall the 9500 drivers again so you could use it ( considering you currently get a black screen with the other one).

But noting your posts you don't want to use that card anymore so even spending a bit of time on this won't be much of an issue i hope
