Is there any guide or information on how to go about selecting the right laptop? I'm looking one for business/school usage.

Remember, Bing Google is your friend. There are many guides to help choose which notebook is right for me. But note all are just guesses.

I recommend you read them all and look for the "features" that are right specifically for you. Then look for a notebook that has those features. It is not likely you will find the perfect notebook for you, but you can come close if you define your needs more precisely.

You have already defined one of the two most important criteria, the primary purpose of this computer. Now you need to set your budget.

You also need to establish your priorities. Larger screens are typically easier on the eyes, but also cause the notebook to weigh more which can be a problem if you will be lugging it around a lot. Larger screens also tend to come with wider keyboards which are easier on the wrists for some people. But a larger screen may reduce battery run times which may or may not be important to you.

If the budget allows, I sure would go with a SSD instead of a hard drive. SSDs offer significantly better performance, but weigh less, take up less space, consume less energy and generate less heat.

I also would get 8GB of RAM minimum.
