I have a GW2k 1024ni monitor (1995 vintage) that still works. But it has a very pinkish color to the screen. And no external button for degaussing. Anyone know how to force it to degauss? I've done the unplug, wait a day, and turn it back on thing. No joy.

Would it be worth looking for a "color profile" file that might be able to shift the color mix?

    Thanks,

    John

Well, since it's old you might actually be able to configure it a bit. Most older monitors were configred with physical dials. If you remove the cover on the monitor you can ususally find these dails. If you can't figure out what they do don't worry to much. Just turn the monitor on with the cover off and turn each dial a bit to see. None of them will cause the monitor to explode if you turn it the wrong way. :) So if it doesn't do something you like, just turn it back and no harm is done. Also, it's quite common for these dails to be glued in place, just break off the glue and turn the dials (this will of course void any warrenty but sicne it's a 95 monitor I don't think that's an issue).

Before you try that you could try to access the manufacturers menu. This (even on new monitors) is almost always opened by simply turning the monitor off. Then holding down a menu button and turning it on. Of coruse this menu may not exsist depending on the monitor, and if it's really old, it might not even have a menu button for you to try holding down. If that's the case, you'll have to remove the cover.

Try this first before delving inside monitor.

Haven't tried it so can't recommend it, but it was mentioned in a review in a magazine I trust.
Follow the Help file. It might help you before opening.up the monitor.

Well, I got the quick gamma and quick profile programs. Neat concept. I was wondering about profiles, and if I could find one that could correct the color.
Quick Gamma won't run on my pc. But quick profile does. Have yet to figure out exactly what to do with it though.

But I did just put in an ATI Rage ii card, and found the latest drivers for it. It has the ability to adjust colors, and builds a profile. You drag a dot around to adjust each of R G and B. Color is bettter now, but not quite right.

No adjustment buttons to be found. Has dials for position, size, brightness and contrast.

It seems my Green gun is either out or is aimed badly enough to just hit the mask. Moving its ATI adjustmet around had zero visible impact.

Looks like it's time to go inside and see if I can get green going again. Maybe something is loose.
