I have been trying to run my school software, and it keeps coming up "unable to download GXchat.dll, and GXmessaging.dll. I have never seen this error before. Would it be the software, or my dinosaur computer?

    First welcome. :)

These files appear to be associated with a chat group called GXChat. Have you downloaded anything to do with that group?

If not try running ad-aware and spy-bot. If that does not cure it post back>

    Thank you :)
    I have run both ad-aware and spy-bot.
    I have no threats.
I have not downloaded any chat groups. This did not start until I loaded in my Biology software. When it opens up, I get three errors. Unable to load GXchat.dll, GXmessaging.dll, and GXmessagecontent.dll.
I can't do any of my homework because of this!!

Well assuming it's nothing to do with your Biology software there are one or two places to look to try to track this down.

The first is the startup folder.

To get there Start>Settings>Taskbar and Start Menu>Start Menu Programs>Advanced>Programs>StartUp

Look in there to see if there is anything you don't recognize.

If it's not in there it will involve a trip to the registry.

You will need to run regedit and then look at these keys

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

These are where the programs that run at start up are listed.

Again you'll need to see if there is anything you don't recognize but especially looking anything like the GX filenames you mentioned.

If they are there you will need to delete those items.

But be careful not to delete anything you are not sure of. Post back if you need advice. :)

I've been having the same exact problem as maltesegirl with the dll error messages. I already did the same steps and keep getting the dll pop ups. I tried that thing with the registry but can't figure out what to delete vs. not to delete. Are there any other things you can suggest to solve the problem? It only happens on www.gsn.com and www.shockwave.com

I have the same problem. I'm sure it has something to do with the shockwave player. If I figure it out I will let you know.
