H-P not booting up

Hello all. first post. i have a H.P.Pavillon 6730. operating system is windows 98 second edition.
turned off putor in normal fasion. (just checked mail.) several hours later turned it on. only get blue scren with H-P logo. it dosent go through any of the boot up stuff.
did not surf or download anything. restarted many times . same problem.
any ideas? thanks in advance, gary

 

no beeps on start up. (thanks for quick reply). am trying the unplug, now.
nope, same thing. the green power light is on the orange (working light) stays on a min or so then goes out.
by rebooting do you mean restarting from power off?
have friends lap top next to offending machine so i can try things in real time.

 

this time it beeped once.

 

with my head down there it beeps once every time. i put in the H-P System recovery disc and it did not start. also put in a windows 98 back up disc. same no results.

Magic?? opened it up. just one fan on the power unit. looked around. no bad smells. did not put cover back on.
turned it on and every thing is fine...
oh well. thanks much for the suggestions. dont know how opening it up fixed it. but.....

 

Welcome to Major Geeks most H-P's come with a real cheap PSU(Power Unit) and it sounds like taking off the side door might have giggled(love that word) a loose connection enough that your unit came back to life. Bad News is that it will more than likely do it again. So if that is the case first check all your connectors from the PSU to any and all devices including the MB (Motherboard) if that fails to correct the problem swap out the PSU and it should be clear sailing from then on.
