I have files, programs, and documents that show deleted when I run Get Data Back and I can open them from that program.

They are not showing up on the my desktop, on my drives, registry or anywhere but only when I run Get Data Back. They simply are not visible at all including my entire 'My Documents' folder. There is no partition that we can see where they could have been moved. They are just gone.

I have run much looking for viruses, trojans and anything else we have. I can pinpoint a time when this happened after 10:p.M. one evening when my computer was on. Sony, Microsoft, Geeks to Go, cannot figure out what happened. My hard drive is good and not corrupt. Registry Mechanic sees over 4,000 too, but I will not run it to repair anything. Please help if you can.

Go to folder options>Views>And check:Show hiden files and folders, uncheck: HIde extensions for known file types,Hide protected operating system files, but I think the reason why you see this files again is cos they have been written in system restore,so after disabling system restoremaybe you will not see them again,or your prog have some missreading.

    Goran,
I think you might have misunderstood. I believe LakeMaMa wants the folders back, not to make them disappear. Get Data Back is not system restore.

Yes,I know that Get Back Data is not system restore, with first section Iwas pointed how to make them visible again if they are in comp.In second I was tryin to solve eventualy missreading from the prog.Anyway Lake MaMa you have Registry Mechanic,so use the soft,it will only clean the issues and problems in your registry.

Hi Goran, if Reg Mech. sees broken pathways won't it delete the shortcuts and then I lose the pathways that are visible? There are over 400 dll files that have been moved. I sure would like to know what this is before I send my hard drive in for data retrieval. I guess this has not happened to anyone here. Geez. :(

I was on with my isp today and they do not think that I was hacked, rather they think that something in windows corrupted my files. They are not systematically deleted; they are picked and chosen. Weird. Is there anything in command that I can check on to see what in the hay is going on here. Thanks in advance. Lake...

Yo,man you know your comp, and know were is your files.I have exact issue like you with my songs. After Registry Mechanic delete all missing paths and icons and everything that is not good for my comp, when I go to WMP to listen musicit show that I don't have songs in my comp.So I was go to add files in WMP, placing againin WMPANd that is all.
What is the files that is so important, and you loose them? When RM stop to scan your comp,in next window you can see what files is placed for deletion.POst clipboard so we can see what is the prob.

I was wondering, LakeMaMa, if you can see the missing folders and files in Get Back Data and open them from there, isn't there a restore feature in GetBackData that returns them fo their location?

There is software to check your OS for corruption and there is such a thing as a repair install. I like Symantec's disk doctor. I wonder if Get Back Data doesn't have a similar feature? If you can see your lost data in there, then obviously the data is still on your harddrive and that is good to know.

My answer is not complete enough, so I hope someone else will add to it.
    :)

If you can see those files anywhere BACK them up! They are at risk.
