    Hi all,

I recently got my Norton Anti-Virus 2002 and Nortan Internet Security installed.

Lately I have been getting recent untrusion attempts by the same IP addie. Some of these attempts have been attacks and portscans..

    here is hte info:

    Last attacked: 10/30/2002 7:00:22pm
    Intrusion attempts: 1324
    Recent attacks: 3
    Most Frequent attacker: ***.***.***.***

Despite this person being in the wrong i decided to still not provide his IP
no matter how many timese i connect to the net there is always someone trying to get inside my comp

any ideas how i can get them busted or something, its slightly worrying,

and btw thnx too all who helped me with my comp, its back to normal "see :Cleaning out the beast"

    Thnx again!

well i think this very bored fella is gone but i have gotten more problems

my firewall is taking ages too load up (with norton when your computer starts it shows a whole list of alerts explaining how all your programs are preparing to access the net etc) well it takes for ever to do this,

also when I shut down my computer just before I do i get a couple of msgs saying my computer is out of virtual memory.

and when i load a certain video file my computer just restarts,

    very very weird

thnx for any help! i just hope the hacker didnt beat my fire wall

I doubt that a hacker got by your wall. I use Zone Alarm, and get those intrusion attempts all the time. The wall is doing what it is supposed to do, and "bragging" about it to you, so you know it is working, I guess. I get several "attacks" a day. I sleep well knowing that Zone Alarm does a nice job as firewalls go, and with the Pro version, it even tells me where the attack originated. (approximately) Got an "attack" from Brazil this morning. KInd of useless info, but a coolism none the less. The firewall is in "learning mode" isn't it? Zone Alarm learns over time what programs are allowed to access the net. Norton does also doesn't it?

couple of cold boots and the comp is working again?? very weird.

aye i use too use ZoneAlarm too till I discovred my computer came with a one year subscription too Norton Internet Security, it is basically like zonealarm so besides a slightly different interface it is very easy to use, it also provides that tracing ability too, shows where it originated and any routers the person is using

    thnx for the re-assurance! :))

I have NIS it BS. Whenever someone port scans a trojan port it says its an intrusion attempt... Well there alot of things out there that just port scan random computers for info purposes... Reporting them to their ISP might work... But usually they couldnt care less... Ive only done it once when I got thousands of port scans a minute for literally around half an hour like every day from the same IP, even with Cable it felt like 14.4 K dialup. But eventually I just pinged him with megabyte packets for 3 hours straight and the port scans stopped but I reported him to his ISP coz he annoyed the hell out of me... PUNK! :)

    HTH

EDIT: LOL! I just remembered... Some applications also port scan networked computers... Kinda suprised me when my sisters computer kept port scanning me when she was away... :)

I use Norton a/v as well as Zone Alarm,

if ya not using both, go ahead, no harm, been using the combo now for 3 years.

IMO, zone alarm is a better bang for the buck, as firewalls go, and Norton for a/v's,

    Peace.
