Had a security scare where I experienced a pop-up window coming up when logging on the one of my online banking sites. With the banks email in the background a window popped up and gave me a message the it didn't recognize my computer and prompted me to put in the banks credit card information to verify. I know that certain banks check this, but fortunately sensed danager. Verified with bank that they would never ask for that info.

    Delete these files.

    C:\windows\system32\REN78.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\REN77.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\REN76.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\5e3ece4a
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\621d14f6
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\8234b245
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\eb62ac4

    Delete this folder.
    C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Viewpoint

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Kestrel13! - just found this today. Not sure why I didn't get an email.

I can not delete the following files, as it tells me they're being used:
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\5e3ece4a
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\621d14f6
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\8234b245
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\eb62ac4

I tried ending the process on executables that I did not think needed to be running without shutting things down, and evidently I'm not finding the correct process to end.

I did the rest of the steps and did get a message saying the regedit was successful.

Really appreciate your help, and again, I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier.

I also notice that I get a Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger message popping up after boot-up. It tells me "an unhandled win32 exception occurred in spoolsv.exe [1972]

Not sure if the above is at all related to the issues I'm having

    Thanks again

Correction to my last post - I did a cut and paste and did not make edits. Only two files could not be deleted. I do notice that there is four once I boot back up, but I can delete two of them

I can not delete the following two files, as it tells me they're being used:
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\5e3ece4a
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\eb62ac4

As it's been a while, let's have you do this:

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Ran it and will attach logs, but I've gotten two "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem" messaged popping up. It lists C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe, NTVDM has encountered a System Error, NTVDM has encountered a System Error c0h Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

    Thanks

    Those logs look good. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
