Hello. I've had MajorGeeks Admin "Chaslang" helping me with a Malware prob (see: "CTFMONB blue scrn, Red biohazard scrn, bugs on srcn"). But I am still having problems with my computer continually rebooting of out the blue. When my computer starts, I get a "The system has recovered from a serious error" window which I close. The system will then reboot at random. It never stays on for more than 15 mins before rebooting.

While I was dealing with the malware, my system started crashing, BSOD with STOP: 0X000000FC code (trying to execute non-executable memory). The other codes that show up keep changing so I didn't bother to write them down - they disappear too quickly anyway. I am able to boot up to another HD in my system, so I don't think it's a physical memory problem.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

Please post your system specs and

    does above apply?

Did you look in the event log as Chaslang suggested? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

    Windows XP 5.12.2600 SP2, whitebox system, AMD Athlon 64, 2 G RAM.

Do not have the Sigma Designs Hollywood Plus DVD decoder installed.

The event log (which I've attached) shows (to me) that it crashes during at least 2 different events: "The Remote Access Connection Manager service entered the running state." or "The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the running state." I have no idea what these events are or how they are associated with the Malware problem I had when this started happening.

I had to edit the log file to include only the last 3 days (the file size was too big).

    Thank you.

Ok, I went through the instructions on the website. 2 problems:

    1. I don't know which driver (if any) I'm having problems with.

    2. There is no file called bootcfg on my system (I did a search), so I am unable to run the cmd script.

    Anything else to try?

Did that. Still no bootcfg file. In what folder is it supposed to be found? Can I download it?

Funny. I can't find it on my other hard drive windows xp install either.

Um, like I said, I can't find it anywhere. Not even in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Can I download it?

Random errors can also be caused by RAM going bad.
If you have 2 sticks of RAM, pull one of the sticks and run the computer. Of course it will be slower running on just 1GB but if it doesn't reboot after 15 min., the stick you removed could be going bad. If the computer misbehaves, switch the sticks and see if the computer is any better.

THANKS DUDE!!! So far so good. Error msgs are gone and (fingers crossed) the computer hasn't rebooted yet. I'm going to leave it on all night and see what the morning brings. THAT is an awesome trick.

FYI. Turns out the problem was an old BlackIce system file. Uninstalled it and :)
