My Hard Drive won't defrag completely. I have 15 % free disk space and I still have 17 % defragmmentation and total defragmentation is 34 %. Do I need even more free disk space? How much?

I think 15% free disk space is the minimum that most defraggers need to operate. What operating system are you using? XP Home, XP Pro, 2000, ME, 98SE or what? What defragger are you using? Is it a Microsoft standard one, or a third party one? Details of your system hardware and software will help. You will probably need to delete some programs you no longer use, to free up space. Are you using Nortons and have lots of stuff in the Norton protected recycle bin? If so, they are unavailable for use, but not actually deleted until you deliberately clear the Norton protected recycle bin.

Do you use a program like CCleaner to clear out the crap that you inherit after every Net session? Do you do regular housekeeping of your hard drive? Answers to these questions will help plan the next step. Bazza

How does a Degragmenter work in Safe Mode. Diskeeper wouldn't work in Safe Mode.
