I have a 9800 pro. I sent it to ATI cause it was defect. I put in my tnt2 without installing drivers, or uninstalling the ATI drivers.

    and it works!

and when I run dxdiag, it says I hava a tnt2.... weird...

What was wrong with the ATI card? Could the problem have been a driver issue?

Windows xp comes with tnt2 drivers, just as it comes with 3dfx voodoo drivers it would have recognised the card and used the appropriate driver,it doesnt come with catalyste or detonator drivers,if you check the driver properties of the card the driver will be a microsoft driver not an nvidia driver

It its an Nvidia driver, yeh you didnt remove it

yeah the card was really defect. I called ATI technical support, after a couple tests and stuff, they told me to send em the card and they'll replace it.

funny thing, they sent me a new card, and it's even more defect, I see all kinds of weird artifacts. They'll send me a third card which I hope will work this time... haha..

Just an aside . . . when dealing with ATI Radeon products it has been my experience that artifacts indicate the GPU is overheating. I bought an ATI Radeon 9800pro All-in-wonder that overheated right out of the box. The hotter it got, the more artifacts would appear on the display. Kind of reminded me of the old days when, as a child, my father would send me outside to twist the antenna pole to get a better signal on a particular television channel. Especially because if left on the display would degenerate to "snow" . . . Readers who are a bit "long in tooth" can relate.

An aftermarket GPU cooling system fixed the problem . . . but it has kinda soured me toward Radeon-based products. To be fair, maybe I got a lemon and should have sent it back . . . but like Captain Ahab it tasked me, and I had to fix it!
