half life 2 5.1 sound problem

When i set half life to work with 5.1 i lose all my sound except for the center channel. Any ideas What is wrong? My sound card is an integrated Realtek ALC650 on a Giga-byte GA-7n400PRO2(Rev. 2.0) MB. The surround Sound works fine in other programs so i am not sure what is wrong.

 

i believe there is a surround sound command specifically for HL2... did you add it to your config?

snd_digital_surround 1


type that in console, see if it helps, if it does, add it to your config.cfg

your sound card might also not support it, but someone else would have to chime in here because i am NOT familiar with sound cards...

 

You're problem stands alone right there, Integrated sound cards are junk for gaming, Believe it or not they use up alot of good memory needed for gaming.

 

memory is cheap and i have lots of it so it doesn't matter.

 

they actually use CPU cycles, all sound cards for the exception of X-FI with onboard memory use RAM.
