half-life 2 nvidia prolems

i just got HL 2 for xmas and it stutters throught the gameplay like the first two levels are glitchy and skip i know theyll run smooth cause i played the demo and it ran fine at really high settings. i switched it down to the lowest settings and it still has glitches lol.. i heard there is an Nvidia patch does neone know where to get it or when it will be available .........thanx

 

hardware specs + drivers? you cant get an answer if you post about 2 words worth of information that we can use to help you.

 

amd athlon 2500+ (1.85Ghz)
512mb ram pc 2700
gainward geforce fx 5700 ultra 256 mb
I have the newest drivers available for the card (67.22 is the current driver)
currently installed on a 80Gb hard drive with 8mb buffer

The latest Video Card drivers are not necessarily the best...each computer has a different setup and given the make/model of the video card they are using an older NForce (used to be detonator) drivers could be more efficient.
Also consider the version of DirectX you are using....the latest system updates and the game updates(patches). Game is not all about the Video Card, sound card is also important, the drivers it is using, its capacity and how it works with the current DirectX version.
Other factors would be overclocked components, you could o/c the CPU and things could be still fine, if not faster but you o/c the RAM, AGP BUS or the Video CArd's core/memory clock frequencies and you could have a salad bar of trouble occuring...
That is all I can comment for now.l

 

only thing OC is the video card its OC to 435/576 Mhz for core/memory steeings.. should i go back to default settings. and as for OC the CPU i have never OC a CPU before so unless theres a simple program to use it lol im shit outta luck on that..

 

what motherboard + drivers do you have? have you checked your mfg forum's for possibility of other peeps having the same trouble as you?

you have all the patches from steam? There are also things to make the game run partial precision fp16 instead of fp24, our FX cards have real issues running fp24!

HL2 does not work very well for nvidia cards AT ALL!! there is a program that makes HL2 think its a ati and it works 100 times bettter. i forgot what it was called though =D

p.s. its a foreign program in a diff language though.

Mr 56k why don't you check your info. Everyone one of my friends (about 20 of us) has half life 2 running on various nvidia cards from 5200 all the way up to 6 800's. Me myself have 5950 and no problems running it.

 

lmfao cause the 6800gt is one of the best graphics card out there. im talking about low end graphics card such as mine which is a geforce fx 5500 bfg. alot of fps lag has to do with your ram.

 

The above poster says he has seen a 5200 run it fine.

The thing is, a low end card doesn't run most things smooth.

I am using a 128MB Leadtek with NVidia's FX 5900 chipset, running on a ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo with AMD XP3200+ using 1GB Corsair PC3200 DDR RAM, 19" NEC CRT at 1024x768 resolution w/ 32bit color depth @ 100Hz refresh rate......no lag at all my friend, online or offline....games do not run laggy due to the video card's chipset....such ignorance to say so and so games does not run on this brand video card anyway...

Cause of problems and lag:
1- Insufficient Video GPU power and memory bandwidth (at least for the selected screen resolution/color depth and refresh rate settings for the display)
2- Insufficient system RAM
3- Slow CPU
4- Insufficient or problematic PSU (on the topic; insufficient/irregular power to the Video card)
5- Bad/unproven Video Card drivers
6- Problems with HardDisk (relevant OS problems/corruptions effecting overall system performance)

~ On top of the above facts, these additional ones apply for online lag:

7- Bad/insifficient network connection
8- problematic nic or router
9- Router settings (or simply the router being in the loop)
10- Trojan or some sort of a spyware infection sucking up the bandwidth.
11- other processes/applications running in the background using the bandwidth.
12- Network connection is shared, thus not handling the current load in the LAN, or too many users on the same ISP Hub (for cable service)/Main Switch box (for DSL service).

* Oh yeah, do not forget the BUGS in the game itself or the current LOAD on the Internet Game server as a factor in lag!

The program is 3DAnalyze with it you can force low pricesion pixel shaders thus making HL2 run faster ( by 10~20FPS in some cases ) id hardly call that 100 times faster and with it you can make HL2 think your running a ATI card with makes NO DEFORANCE the ATI and HL2 thing is blown WAY out of porporton of corse valve made optomisations to HL2 ATI did give them a crap load of $ to put thare name on it .....read for your self .... id read up and do your homework before you go calling every one wrong

Thare is no speed boost form making HL2 think you have an ati card but force low precision pixel shader and remove stuttering help a bit........

yeah those drivers MAY have been bad for your card maby? because i installed wrong drivers in one of my cards one time and i could never run cs in full window. because it would like tweak and shake.

 

Look in you're advanced video settings and make sure that you are running the game in DX 8 mode. The FX cards cannot run in DX 8.1 or DX 9.0 mode except the 5950 Ultra and another one that I forgot the name of.

Have you forced the card into DX 9 mode? Have you downlaoded one of those "Look! You can have DX 9 water FX!" patches?

 

My 5600 runs HL2 in DX 8.1just fine and it runs faster and looks better in 8.1 mode and it will run DX9 just fine too ( if not slow ) BTW force the DX mode in the concole by mat_dxlevel 81 for 8.1 and mat_dxlevel 90 for DX 9 ...........be shore you know what your talking about before you post ......and arn't the 67.22s bata drivers ????

 

are you sure? because i was installing 66.93 and it said it was older than 67.22............

A simple look at their wbsite can tell you he is right.

The other drivers are beta, and an outdated beta at that.

 

You shouldnt install drivers on top of themselves...

 

I've been reading this thread...I have an Nvidea GeForce 5500FX 256mb 8/4 card. I don't know what you mean by detinator drivers... can you give me a step by step on what I need to do to get them? And will this card run with DX 9.0c? Thats the DX I have and I can't run ANY games at all...(Halflife, not HL2, battlefield 1942, thief3, warcraft, even runescape) should I install a differant DX? Please help with a step by step for me,
