Halo Difficulties HELP

I just bought Halo: Combat Evolved for PC. Everything on my computer is updated with the latest patches, and I know that running this game is not going to be a problem. Updated the game as well with its latest patch. After the Microsoft screen at the begining it does not change to the main menu to allow me to play the game. I can hear the background music going on, but I can not get any visual of the menu. What is my problem?

P.S. I have reinstalled already.

 

Yeah thier stupid site does not do any good. They talk about the screen going black through gameplay, that is as close as they get. And their phone tech support cost money to use them, so I wasn't going to support the fact that they rip people off.

 

Sounds like another refreshrate issue to me. i had the same thing a diffrent error where halo would give me a invalid direct x error. due to my use of rivaTuner to override the XP 60mhz prob.

but i know in the last patch they fixed that problem by having the game autoset the menu's to run at the highest refresh possible as given by your monitors DCC profile.

from what you have seid. it sounds like the game is setting your refreshrate to high for your monitor for the menu's "possibly improper DCC info?"

unfortunatly if it is that. i dont know how to fix it, might have to hit up bungies support lines for it.

btw- MS helped make/fund the game. bungie ported it to the PC, so they are the people to ask for help on errors like that. , there forums are a great place to start. > http://halo.bungie.net/ <

try lowering your desktop resolution to like 800x600

does halo come with a pre-load video utility where you can set the video configuration by a file?

 

havent got this game but encountered similar problems with other microsoft games its caused by not having the intel indeo codec installed causing the game to freeze at intro movie yet still recieve audio

the other option is turning off intro video should be a setting in the game for this if not you should be able to edit your Halo ini file with notepad in zoo tycoon theres a line saying playmovie=1 change the value to 0 save and exit

this works with zoo tycoon but i cant guarantee it works with halo

 

try updating the video driver. The game didn't like the older Nvidia driver I was running and updating sovled my problem, which was much like yours.

 

I had re reformat my hard drive and install direct x off the game. after that it played fine. for me it was a direct x issue sounds like you have the same prob I had. The above mentioned fixed this issue, however I had nothing to loose on my hard drive.
