Halo hates me now.

Ok so Halo used to play on my PC, and now it wont. I can not figure out what is wrong with it. I had the same PC before but I had a MSI GeForce FX 5600XT w/128MB and a 120GB IDE Maxtor hard drive, I upgraded to a Maxtor 200GB SATA drive and a Visiontek Radeon 9600XT w/256mb RAM. I boot Halo and it black screens and gives me an error stating that "A problem occured initializing Direct3d, hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG". I did all the steps on Microsofts website and none of them work, I have the latest Visiontek drivers now, I had the latest drivers from ATi, neither of those worked, and I ran DXDIAG and my card passed all the tests just fine. I have SP2 installed, don't know if that might be causing the problem? Any help will be appreciated.

 

I'm not totally sure if this is the same problem my hubby had, but it sure sounds like it. He also went to a black screen all the time while trying to load games, and low and behold we found out it was all in the desk top settings! We set his desk top at 800x600 and also changed his monitor to 85mhz for the screen refresh rate. That ended our problem, so I guess it's worth a try for you. Hope it works for you!

 

Thanks for the help, but I finally found the solution. When SP2 is installed it changes some stuff that Halo accesses, so I had to simply get an updated binkw.dll file from Bungie, not sure why this is'nt available on MS' website, but oh well. Thanks all.
