Be sure to hang on to your receipts, in particular, Paid Medical Receipts…. I know, I am going thru a real mess right now…. Let me explain:

My husband had a procedure done last December… the lab billed the Ins. Co. The Ins. Company paid their part, we paid our part, and I THOUGHT everything was done with them..

Well, not so fast…. I actually am beginning to think, the billing people are the same ones or at least related to MA “Pligg” people? I have been getting bills from the lab, and it says we owe it… we never paid them… Oh, I do have my receipts, and I tried to talk to them.. I called several times, and get the same answer: “you owe it, so pay it”…. Dah, the last time I went to school, 5-5=0... Well, do to the fact I haven’t paid it again, they turned me into Collections..
They don’t want to hear “it was paid” they said they want the $$$. Also, no shortage of harassing phone calls either… Oh, they are so very intimidating too…

Well, to make a LONG story short, I have retained an attorney…. I didn’t want to have to get a lawyer, but I sure didn’t see any other recourse… Heck, my credit is on the line here, and this black mark will not do me any favors… This bill has been paid, and they cashed the check, and the check cleared the bank in Feb ‘09… Seems simple enough to me, as I have all my receipts… Can you imagine if I didn’t have those receipts? I shutter to think! The worst part is, I don’t owe it.. It has already been PAID…..

I am sure it was just a typing error that when they cashed the check in Feb. that someone didn’t post it to the account, or worse yet, to the WRONG acct….But they have told me, “We don’t make mistakes!” Heck, even I will admit to making a mistake. I think everyone has at one point or another… but golly, isn’t this wild? I have never had to go thru this before, and worse yet, when the bill has been paid… The almost funny part, is, since this was paid in full in Feb., I started getting bills from them in March.. Oh, I know it sounds unreal, and I am still in shock, repeating, to myself, “I don’t believe this!” as I look over all this darn waste of paperwork….. Seriously, someone has too much time on their hands…. Now I ask ya, can it get any better than this?

    Hi TeeCee

OUCH thats bad and I bet you are really glad you kept the reciepts! If anyone tells you they never make mistakes and if their systems are comupterised then they are lying out and out, no such thing these days as 100% perfection especially in the medical field.

Just reminds me hpw lucky we are in UK to have free healthcare.

Hope all works out for you and your lawyers clawe monies back from them for the stress and effort you have had to goto to contest your innocence.

Hi Halo, Oh yes, I am glad I kept them, but the worst part is, I mailed and faxed copies of all the EOB's and cancelled checks, and they still told me it wasn't paid, so off to the Lawyer we will go... They won't listen to me, so now they will have to listen to our attorney... It is sad that it has come to this, because, they are computerized...

I would LOVE to claw out a few $$$ from them, for all the hassle, and harassment they have put me thu for the past 5 months, but due to the fact they won't listen to me, I must go to plan B... Maybe I should have gotten MA or Corporal Punishment after them:-D

From what the attorney says, it is pretty cut and dry, and cannot believe they are doing this to us... He told me, " LET ME AT 'EM!" I am sure things will go fine, it is just a hassle that should never have come to this.... rolleyes

Just a little advice TeeCee whenever you make our take phone calls
Always have a pen and paper at the ready
Always write the day and date down
Always write down the time the conversation started and ended
Always ask for the persons name
Always ask what dept they work in and their extension if any
Then at least you can quote what when where and who, i'm only saying this to you because some people don't bother, and then later regret it, because they have no record of what went on, this in itself can be just as valuable as any reciept.
Hope you get things sorted sooner rather than later .:)

Yes, Rusty, I did do all of that... I do take the time, and usually will type it as we are talking, and then print it off.. Thanks, I am glad I am doing something right! ;)

    Hi TeeCee

Sadly too many folk depend on what a PC tells them they sadly have no mechanism to go search manually or the inclination to do so, I work in medicine and know first hand what the finance and admin depts are like, I have had many a run in with them over personal issues on my pay etc If it was my decision then all managers would be sacked, cannot fault the general staff if the managers didnt train them properly or to doubt that a PC says.

But they rely on the PC too much and if the PC says Yes then its a Yes, if it says NO then its a NO, there is no doubting the PC, even when I can prove human error, the PC is ok but the numbscull behind the keyboard only needs to turn around to view their collegue whos just said look at my friends Facebook site and next minute they have clicked, "has medical bill been paid = NO"

Oh, Halo, you took the words right out of my mouth! They 'say' they 'never make mistakes' but I am about to prove them wrong... No matter what country or state, 5-5=0. Period...

That is exactly what I thought too.. A simple typo is easy to do.. But they don't even give me the courtesy of listening to me, or even reading the EOB's I sent to them... Now I am done with them, they can talk to my attorney... Sad, tho, when it has to come to this...

I just can't wait to see what they have to say to the lawyer....... I keep all receipts for many years, for this very reason... I hope I don't ever have to go thru this again...rolleyes

I have come across the odd recalcitrant company that thinks if they are intimidating and persistent enough they will get me to pay a bill twice. Wrong! That's when you get your Lawyer to serve them with a 'Notice if Intention to Sue', and that they are liable for (a) Current legal cost and (b) future court costs, plus unspecified damages. Amazing how efficient they suddenly become.rolleyes This has only happened to me twice, but it is effective.;)

Oh, Darlene, they sure do come in handy.. Any bill that is paid, KEEP that receipt, in today's economy, I think there is more double-dipping now than ever before. yeah, it is amazing how rotten some can be, and you just don't know until you see it for yourself... I am glad you kept yours tho.;)

Oh TC I am so sorry to hear of your situation. Don't take this wrong but now I don't feel as horrid about misplacing my wallet that I still can not find.:cry
My parents went through a very similar thing only it was about the mortgage on the first house they bought and PAID FOR IN FULL before they ever moved out of the state of PA to NJ then to FL. The funny thing is it wasn't the mortgage company that was after them for "Not paying the last 3-6 payments"(they weren't even sure of how many payments) it was the City of Philadelphia. It seems they took over some homes that were condemned and abandon and try to get money out of the mortgage co. that they owed the city for what ever, the mortgage company then said my parents still owed on the house. They(City) harassed my dad, who if you tick him off he will politely tell you where to stick it(back woods boyLOL). My dad had every one of his paid receipts with the mortgage company stamped saying paid on it from the very first payment right down to the paid in full stamp on the papers as well as all the cashed checks. They said they wanted him to send the,get this-this is hilarious, "Original" receipts of payments including his returned checks proving it was paid. roflmao roflmao and that's exactly what my dad did over the phone and the attorney did the same thing and said "Call me back when you can talk some sense" then hung up. My dads attorney who by the way, happened to be my brothers brother-in-law. Small world. Of course our attorney told theirs if they want "copies" of the originals he would gladly send them at their cost of postage and $1.00 per copy of all receipts dating back to the first payment. Not an exact but it was close to $1200.00plus. He sent them and they (City of Philey) wound up putting out more then they were trying to get from my dad. He saved all receipts and these were from 1952 til 1979. Almost 30 yrs. As a matter of fact they are still in a file box that my brother has .
So TC stick it to them just because they refused to listen to you girl. They deserve that much.:-D

Sad part is in the end they won't be out anything, they'll simply double bill others and make it back.

Darlene is right, they sure will. They think everyone is stupid, but they are just finding out I don't play that game, and they are about to learn the hard way.....

All one needs to do, is stick to your guns... Remember, as long as you have your receipts, and proof of payment, they are just spinning their wheels... You have to remember that also, Darlene... You must be bigger than they give ya credit for....;)

This just keeps getting better and better... Today, I got EOBs for medical stuff that was done last year, that was not only paid, but now they are re-billing it all... Oh, I can't wait for Monday! Surely I can't be the only one here ? I mean, this is almost down right funny. ALMOST..... :-D

Yeah, I had to pull those receipts out too, so I have them all ready for Monday morning...:-D I am beginning to think there is a conspiracy going on here... One of these claims are over a year old, and I am still in awe over this new turn in events.... Yes, they were all were paid last year.... :confused

LOL Hi rustyjack, you sure hit the nail on the head there! LOL You know, it sure doesn't do any good to get mad, or cry over this kind of stuff, might as well just get all the receipts together and deal with it.. It would be a whole different story, now, had these bills not been paid, but that is what makes it so laughable.. They have already been paid, and these latest ones are from a year ago... Really, now, this is funny LOL

Oh, heck, I LOVE a good laugh, and manage to have a good one at least once a day! ;)

PS: I see I need to use spell check more often too! LOL

:eek Holy Mackerel TC. What did you say to them:-D They are out for Blood:-D(pun intended) Good thing it's a medical type of issue:p Just joking.

On the serious side. Have you spoke with the doctor who referred you to that lab to see if anyone else is having this problem? I think I would cause things are greater in numbers. Lord only knows how many others are and/or have already gone through this not knowing they can stop it. I hope you nail them to the wall and when its done just say thank you for the pure joy of making them wonder why you would be thanking them. They won't know if you have anything else on them or not:-D

Hi Bigtrucks, yes, I did call the Dr's office, and they were "surprised" and said they never heard of them doing this to anyone... I am SURE I am not the only one.....

This morning was spent on the phone :mad discussing this issue, and they told me that they are re-billing for some services, as they didn't use the proper forms... Now, this is a different lab... (are we having fun yet? NOT)

I think it is just a snowball effect myself, because if a really elder person got this, they would think they owed it, and just pay it...rolleyes

I have NEVER been so happy I keep all my EOB's and receipts... as I am right now...Stay tuned, for Chapter 3!;)
