Greetings, I get to the first screen in the BIOS during booting up and that's it. Inserting Windows CD's or Norton CD's don't change anything either. I have a home built rig- Intel motherboard=D865PERL with p4 running at 3.0 speed, a 1 gig of ram, ATI 9800 pro vid card, a DVD burner, a CD burner, C drive is 120 gig, another hard drive with 200 gig and a third on a adaptec controller card with another 200 gig. F2 won't allow you in get into the BIOS setup. Also, I tried uplugging all drives, cd's, everything-and I get the same thing. I looked on the motherboard for a BIOS reset button but could not find one.

This all started when I was uploading some VHS footage thru a ADS tech DVD xpress USB2 (which has worked in the past) then the program froze, I shut down the machine and that was it. There doen't seem to be a whole lot of options....

    Steven,
I searched Intel's website for specs on your motherboard, and you don't have a reset button for the bios. The jumper that you are looking for is J7H2. It will be in the vicinity of the bios battery, and has 3 pins. According to Intel there are 3 options. Pins 1 and 2 are jumpered together in a normal configuration. Pins 2 and 3 are jumpered together in the configure mode. This compares the settings that are running with those in the bios chip. Recovery - no pins are jumpered together, and a recovery diskette is required. Make sure that the power is turned off, and the power cord is unplugged from the outlet before attempting anything. This is all the info that Intel offered for resetting the bios on your board! :)

Thanks for the info, I downloaded the bios repair thing and removed the jumper, put in the floppy-and it didn't work-left it in there 20 minutes too.

    Steven,
Thanks for your reply! I only provided information that you seemed to be wanting, and that was from Intel, concerning not being able to reset your bios. I hate that this didn't work for you. This reply will bring you back to the top of the post, and maybe more knowledgeable members can help you further! :)

You know, I hate floppys. I tried the whole process again with a different floppy and it worked!! Also, at the site, Intel said I must update my BIOS, so I did that too. All of my drives are working and life seemed back to normal. Then I wanted to use my CD drive, and it's gone-add a hardware won't find it. You can't find drivers for winXP, cd & dvd's. How do you reset the bios or something else to find that ide cable?

Firstly make sure the cable is in correctly ,then try and find it in bios (auto detect hardware) it may also be worth checking to see if its dead especailly if it froze while being used ,if you've got a spare cd drive or hdd try putting it on that ribbon to see if it recognises it if it does you know your supply to it is ok and it must be your cd

Thanks for the help, this site is very cool. It turns out to have been a couple of bent over contector pins on the ide cable. She's runnin like a champ again!!
